Why won't my Sony DVD VCR Combo play the disc?
    • S
      Shawn CarlsonAug 27, 2025
Several reasons may prevent the disc from playing. Ensure that the disc is not turned over and that you insert the disc with the playback side facing down on the disc tray. Check if the disc is skewed. Note that the player cannot play certain discs. The region code on the DVD must match the player. The player also cannot play CD-Rs, CD-RWs, or DVD-Rs that are not finalized. Make sure the TV / DVD·VIDEO switch is set correctly and select correctly VIDEO or DVD with SELECT DVD/ VIDEO button.

What to do if the timer on my Sony DVD VCR Combo does not operate?
    • R
      Rachel CraigAug 28, 2025
Several issues could prevent the timer from working. Verify that the clock is set and that a tape has been inserted. Check that the safety tab has not been removed and that the tape is not at its end. Ensure that a program has been set for timer recording and that your timer settings are past the current time. Also, check that the cable box is turned on. If the DVD-VCR is disconnected from the wall outlet for more than one minute, the clock stops, so reset the clock and timer. Finally, turn the power off and unplug the AC power cord.

Check the connection to your TV and switch the input selector so the signal from the player appears on the TV screen. Also, a dirty or flawed disc may cause this. If the picture output goes through your VCR to your TV, the copy-protection signal applied to some DVD programs could affect picture quality. If problems persist, try connecting your player directly to your TV’s S VIDEO input. If you have set the player to progressive format, but your TV cannot accept the progressive signal, press the PROGRESSIVE button on the front panel until the PROGRESSIVE indicator turns off.
