the
sound
seems
to
lack
bass
notes
and
the
position
of
the
instruments
is
obscure,
the
speakers
and/or
the
front
and
back
amplifiers
may
be
phased
improperly.
Check
the
phasing
as
follows
(refer
to
the
illustration
on
page
25).

1.
Turn
on
the
SQD-2020,
and
front
and
back
amplifiers.
Make
the
“Input
Level
Adjustment”
on
page
18,
if
you
have
not
yet
done
it.
2.
Select
a
conventional
two-channel
record
which
contains
pro-
minent
bass
notes.
3.
Set
each
switch
as
follows:

connect
the
back
OUTPUT
(LOW)
jacks
to
the
back
amplifier’s
preamp
section,
keep
the
back
amplifier’s
switches
as
follows
:

When
connected
to
tape
inputs,
keep
the
monitor
selector
on
“tape”.
-When
connected
to
auxiliary
inputs,
keep
the
monitor
selector
on
“source”
and
the
function
selector
on
“aux”.
4.
Check
the
front
speaker
phasing:
Set
the
front
amplifier’s
volume
and
balance
controls
to
their
usual
position.
Turn
the
FRONT
RIGHT
and
LEFT
LEVEL
controls
fully
clockwise
and
the
BACK
RIGHT
and
LEFT
LEVEL
controls
fully
counterclock-
wise.
Move
the
front
speakers
so
that
they
are
about
30cm
(one
foot)
apart
and
facing
each
other.
Play
the
record
and
turn
the
MASTER
VOLUME
controt
to
a
comfortable
level.
Listen
to
a
recorded
passage
containing
prominent
bass
notes.
Then,
reverse
the
connection
to
one
of
the
front
speakers
and
listen
to
the
same
bass
passage
again.
If
it
now
sounds
like
there
is
less
bass,
the
speakers
were
correctly
phased
and
the
original
connection
should
be
restored.
However,
if
the
bass
appears
to
have
increased,
the
speakers
were
originally
phased
incorrectly
and
the
new
connection
should
be
used.
