Note: “When reproducing discrete four-channel or conven-
tional two-channel sounds the VU meters may go into
the red zone This +s because the program does not
pass the Input LEVEL ADJUST controt when you select
the DISCRETE. 4 CH TAPE or 2CH_ Therefore, adjust
the output level controls of the tape recorder connected
so that the meters read around O VU ff the recorder
has no output leve! controls. adjust the signa! level
with the SQD-2020's FRONT and BACK LEVEL controls.
When you select SQ, R-MTX, or 2—4, after readjusting
the FRONT and BACK LEVEL controls, be sure to return
them to their standard setting (as determined in “Ill.
Four channel Balance Adjustments” on page 26.}
OTo play discrete four-channe! records, a special cartridge
and an adaptor must be added. If you have these
components, connect the outputs of the discrete four-
channel adaptor to the SQD-2020’s DISCRETE INPUTs.
Tape Recording
Two-channel tape recording: While reproducing phono, fm or
auxiliary program sources, the signal fed to the FRONT PREAMP
INPUT jacks always goes directly to the 2 CH TAPE RECORI
REC OUT jacks and the REC/PB connector without being decoded.
Therefore, any SQ program can be recorded as an SO tape. The
input LEVEL ADJUST contro! has no effect on the recording re-
sults in these circumstances.
Four-channel tape recording :
The signals fed to the 2 CH TAPE RECORDER TAPE input jacks
and the FRONT PREAMP INPUT jacks go to the 4 CH TAPE
RECORDER REC OUT jacks after passing through the decoder
circuit. Therefore, you can record an SO program, another type
matrix program, or a conventional two-channel program as
four-channel sound. When recording, push either the SQ, R-MTX
or 24 button.
The signals fed to the DISCRETE INPUT jacks are directly fed
to the 4 CH TAPE RECORDER REC OUT jacks.
CLEANING
Finger prints, the children’s chocolate candy, and similar house-
hold annoyances can mar the beauty of your SQD-2020. These
can be cleaned up by wiping the panel or knobs with a soft clean
cloth moistened with water. Do not use any type of scouring
powder, abrasive pads, or solvents.
