Overview

This document describes the Spedal Webcam, covering its functions, technical specifications, usage features, and maintenance.

Function Description

The Spedal Webcam is designed for video communication and recording across various operating systems, including Mac OS, Windows, Chrome OS, and Android. It supports popular video conferencing applications such as FaceTime, Skype, Google Hangouts, Facebook Messenger, QQ, Skype for Business, Cisco (WebEX), Lifesize, Intel, BlueJeans, Vidyo, and ZOOM. The webcam features a built-in microphone for audio input and a ring light for illumination. It can be used for video calls, video recording, and taking photos.

Important Technical Specifications

  • USB Cable Length: 1.6 meters. An extension cable (TYPE A USB 2.0 HUB) can be used, but the total length should not exceed 5 meters.
  • Video Resolution: Supports up to 1080P HD for video calls and recording, though actual resolution may be limited to 720P or 640P due to network bandwidth, application version, or software settings.
  • Audio Quality (Windows): For microphone input, "CD quality" (2 channel, 16 bit, 48000 Hz) or above is recommended. For speaker output, sound quality higher than 24 bits and 192000 Hz is preferred.
  • Audio Quality (Mac): Not explicitly specified, but similar settings to Windows are implied for optimal performance.
  • Browser Compatibility for Webcast: Google Chrome (32bit or 64bit PC version 65.0.3325.XXX or above) and Firefox (32bit or 64bit PC version 59.0.2 or above) are recommended.
  • Mac OS Compatibility: Mac OS 10.6 or more advanced versions are compatible.
  • Linux Compatibility: Only if the Linux version supports UVC drive-free protocol.
  • TV Compatibility: If the TV supports UVC protocol and has OTG function.

Usage Features

Installation and Setup:

  • Windows: The camera is installed automatically upon connection. Drivers are reloaded if the camera is reconnected.
  • Mac OS: The camera is installed automatically upon connection.
  • Software Download: Users need to download appropriate video software (e.g., FaceTime, Skype) and register an account. For multi-party conferencing, paid memberships for specific applications may be required.

Camera Placement:

  • The webcam can be fixed on a computer screen or laid flat on a table. It has screw holes at the bottom for use with a camera support.
  • Maintain a distance of 0.5m to 1m between the lens and the object for optimal performance.

Focus Adjustment (Autofocus):

  • To achieve maximum clarity, aim the lens at a reference object and wave your hand in front of the camera.
  • In backlit environments, with a lot of stray light, or against a single-color background, autofocus performance may be weaker. Adjusting the camera position or gently shaking it can help.

Three-level Beauty Touch-light Adjustment:

  • The webcam features a ring light with three brightness levels (low, medium, strong) that can be adjusted by gently touching a button on the front of the camera.

Five-level Digital Focal Length:

  • The zoom control button on the camera allows for five levels of focal distance adjustment. Digital zoom is supported only below 1080P resolution.

Audio Settings (Windows):

  • Microphone Input:
    • Right-click the sound icon on the taskbar and select "Open Sound Settings."
    • Choose "麦克风 (USB Live Camera Audio)" as the input device.
    • In "Microphone Properties," under the "Listen" tab, ensure "Listen to this device" is unchecked.
    • Under the "Level" tab, adjust the volume and ensure the microphone is not muted.
    • In the "Advanced" tab, select "CD quality" or above for "Default Format."
    • Under "Exclusive Mode," ensure "Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device" and "Give exclusive mode applications priority" are checked.
  • Speaker Output:

    • Select "High Definition Audio Device" as the output device.
    • In "扬声器 Properties," under the "level" tab, adjust the volume and ensure the speaker is not muted.
    • Under the "Enhancements" tab, ensure "Disable all sound effects" is checked.
    • In the "Advanced" tab, avoid choosing sound quality similar to the microphone Hz; prefer sound quality higher than 24 bits and 192000 Hz.

Audio Settings (Mac OS):

  • On the "System Preferences" page, click the sound icon.
  • Select "USB Live Camera Audio" under "Input" and adjust the input volume.
  • Select the appropriate output device under "Output," adjust the volume, and ensure "Mute" is not checked.

Video Recording (Windows 10):

  • Open the "Camera" program from the Start menu.
  • Click the video icon to start recording or the photo icon to take a picture.
  • Amcap Software:
    • Connect the camera, open Amcap, and select "USB Live Camera" as the recording video device and "USB Live Camera Audio" as the recording audio device.

    • Click the "Camera" menu and select "USB Live Camera" as the default camera.
  • FaceTime:
    • Open FaceTime.
    • Click the "Video" menu and select "USB Live Camera" as the default camera.
    • Select "USB Live Camera Audio" as the default microphone.

Background Changing and Game Live Streaming:

  • Requires support from the game platform (e.g., Xsplit). Registering as a VIP paid member may be necessary.
  • For Windows 7 and above, Chromacam software can be used to set the webcam as a virtual video device, change video backgrounds, and upgrade to Chromacam PRO for advanced features.

Troubleshooting Common Issues:

  • Camera Not Detected (Windows): Uninstall "USB Live Camera Audio" from Device Manager, remove the camera, restart the computer, then reconnect the camera to a different USB port (preferably not a front port for desktops).
  • Camera Not Detected (Mac): Remove the camera, restart the computer, reconnect, and perform a PRAM/NVRAM reset (Command+Option+P+R during startup). Ensure Mac OS is updated.
  • No Sound/Interrupted Sound (Windows Microphone):
    • If "Stereo Mixing" is on or set as default, disable the built-in sound card's "MIC IN" port.
    • If using a headset, uncheck "Monitor This Device" in microphone properties to prevent whistling.
    • Turn off "Automatically adjust microphone" in video applications like Skype.
    • If issues persist, use the "Recorder" app to test the microphone.
  • Noise/Echo (Windows Microphone):
    • Windows 7: In "Realtek HD Audio Manager," turn off "Ffp" and turn on "Echo Cancellation."
    • Windows 8/10: In "Realtek HD Audio Manager," turn on "Noise Suppression" and "Echo Cancellation."
    • Keep mobile phones away from the speaker during calls to prevent interference.
  • Abnormal Sound (Mac): Similar setting errors as Windows systems can cause abnormal sound.
  • Video Freezing/Smearing/Bad Frames (Windows):
    • Check if the video preview software supports H.264 decoding.
    • Ensure the video communication software automatically switches between H.264, MJPEG, and other formats.
    • Confirm the camera supports H.264 format.
  • Local Preview Image White/Black (Windows):
    • Ensure the computer system and video preview application support H.264 decoding. Download a video preview application that supports H.264 decoding if needed.
    • Ensure the video preview function is not turned on or privacy functions are not blocking camera access.
  • Video Quality Abnormal (Windows):
    • Adjust brightness, contrast, gamma, and color settings in the video properties.
    • Ensure the lighting environment is not monochromatic, too strong, or too dark.
  • Image Geometrically Distorted/Deformed (Windows): Ensure the video software is set to a special effect mode.
  • Image Has Water Ripples (Windows): Change the voltage frequency of the camera to be consistent with the local voltage frequency (50HZ or 60HZ).
  • 1080P HD Camera Only Reaches 720P/640P:
    • Check network bandwidth and ensure it supports 1080P HD transmission.
    • Verify the video communication application version supports HD 1080P.
    • Adjust image quality settings in the communication software to 720P or 640P.
  • Blurred Image During Video Call:
    • Check network bandwidth and ensure bandwidth saving mode is not selected.
    • Adjust focus manually by rotating the lens or automatically by waving a hand in front of the lens.
    • Ensure the video communication application supports H.264 compression and HD video calls.
  • Abnormal Images (Mac): Similar setting errors as Windows systems.
  • Webpage Cannot Access Camera (Browsers):
    • Try a different browser.
    • Close all other applications that might be using the webcam.
    • Check Flash settings on Adobe's website.
  • Grainy/Freezing Video (Application): The H.264 decoding library of the video application might be outdated, or the application might not be requesting the H.264 compressed video stream. Contact the seller for firmware upgrades.
  • Other Abnormalities (Mac): If the camera is recognized in "System Report" but not in some APPs (FaceTime, Hangouts), it might be due to applications not being able to switch external cameras in Mac OS.

Maintenance Features

  • Secure Placement: Ensure the camera and its support are firmly fixed to prevent falling.
  • Environmental Protection: Keep the camera away from liquids, high temperatures, and strong magnetic fields.
  • Lens Cleaning: Avoid touching the lens with bare hands. Clean gently with a wiping cloth. For stubborn stains, use a wiping cloth dipped in alcohol. For difficult dirt, use a non-abrasive lens cleaner instead of corrosive solutions.
