Standard Horizontal Tanks
The pump can be foot mounted and connected to a
standard tank, using standard pipe fittings. The tank
should be set on tank feet or another type of support to
minimize corrosion under the tank caused by conden-
sation. A gate valve and union should be installed
between the pump and tank to make the pump easily
removable for service. The air volume control should be
installed in the tapping provided on the side of the tank.
Connect the air volume control tubing to the pump with
the fittings furnished. A gate valve should be installed
between the tank and the house service piping.
Atmospheric Charging –
Horizontal Tanks Only
Atmospheric charging is used when additional air in the
tank is not required to supply a sufficient amount of
water between pump cycles. It is accomplished by
operating the pump through one complete cycle to see
if everything functions properly. Drain the tank by
removing the lower pipe plug. Replace the plug and
start the pump. An atmospheric charge of air remains in
the tank, and gives a minimum cushion necessary for
normal domestic operation.
PRIMING THE PUMP
Never run pump dry. Running pump with-
out water may cause pump to overheat, damaging seal
and possibly causing burns to persons handling pump.
Fill pump with water before starting.
Never run pump against closed dis-
charge. To do so can boil water inside pump, causing
hazardous pressure in unit, risk of explosion and possi-
bly scalding persons handling pump.
Models thru 3/4 HP (ANB, ANC, AND)
Remove the priming plug (Key No. 10, Figure 5, Page
8), and fill the pump with water. The 4” vertical nipple
installed in the suction tapping enables you to com-
pletely fill the pump body with water, when no line
check valve is used. This is essential for the initial
prime. Replace priming plug and start pump. Water
should be pumped in a few minutes, depending upon
the depth to water and the horizontal run of piping. If
pump does not prime after a few minutes of running,
repeat the priming process, until all the air is evacuat-
ed from the pump and piping. Once the pump is in
operation, further priming will not be necessary.
Models ANE, ANF (1 HP – 1-1/2 HP)
Remove the priming plug (Key No. 10, Figure 6, Page
9), fill the pump with water. Replace plug, and start
pump. Water should be pumped in a few minutes,
depending upon the horizontal run of pipe and depth to
water. Once the pump is in operation, further priming
will not be necessary.
