The Select Orientation command
The SelectOrientationsupersetcommandletsyouchangethe“attitude”in
whichtheStarLaserPrinter8 prints.
TochangefromoneorientationtotheotheryousendthisSelectOrientation
Escapesequence:
<ESC>[ O n
Forthevaluen youput O(zero)for portraitorientation,
or 1(one)forlandscapeorientation.
When you send this commandto print in landscapemode, the printer
automaticallyrotatesitscurrentfontso thatit printsaslandscape.
The spotor linewhereprintingstartson thepageis sometimescalledthe
origin or top ofform.
Theoriginchangeswhenyouswitchorientations.
Thatstartingprintpositionisintheupperleftcornerforaportraitpage,but
in thelowerleftcomerfor a landscapepage.
TheStarLaserPrinter8letsyoumixportraitandlandscapeorientationson
thesamepage.Becausethestartingprintpositionchangeswhenyouswitch
orientationsthough,you have to rememberto re-orientcommandsthat
move the print position.If you don’t want to allow the printer to mix
orientations,usethefrontpanelprogrammenutochangetheCOMMAND
parameterFF on ROTATEvalueto NO.
Youprobablywon’twanttochangeorientationallthatoften.Everytimeyou
do,th~StarLaserPrinter8alsoresetsthepagemarginstoitslimits,andalso
howit defineslinesandcolumns.SowheneveryougivetheSelectOrien-
tationcommandyoumaywanttofollowitwithEscapesequencestochange
thesideandtopmarginsandpaperlengthsettings.(Alternatively,youcould
putrheprinterofflineandresetthesefromthefrontpanel,asdescribedunder
LAYOUTearlier.)
