Replace the chain sprocket
– after using two saw chains or
sooner
– if the wear marks (arrow) on the
sprocket are deeper than approx.
0.5 mm since this would reduce the
life of the chain. You can use a
gauge (special accessory) to check
the depth of the wear marks.
It is best to use two saw chains in
rotation with one sprocket.
Removing the chain sprocket
N Remove the chain sprocket cover,
chain and guide bar.
N Pull off the spark plug boot.
N Use the combination wrench to
unscrew the spark plug.
N Screw the locking screw into the
cylinder as far as stop.
N Turn the crankshaft clockwise until it
is blocked.
N Use the combination wrench to
unscrew the hex nut.
NOTICE
The hex nut and the clutch have left-
hand threads – they must be unscrewed
clockwise.
N Remove the front cover washer.
N Remove the clutch.
N Remove the rear washer, chain
sprocket and needle cage.
N Clean the crankshaft stub.
N Clean the needle cage and lubricate
it with STIHL grease.
Installing the chain sprocket
N Fit the needle cage and new chain
sprocket.
N Fit the rear washer – the collar faces
the sprocket.
N Push the clutch with adapter sleeve
and ring on to the crankshaft stub –
the ring faces outwards.
N Fit the front cover washer – the
raised center faces outwards.
N Fit the hex nut counterclockwise
and tighten it down firmly with the
combination wrench.
N Unscrew the locking screw from the
cylinder.
N Install the spark plug.
N Mount the bar, chain and sprocket
cover.
