15.19 Removing and installing the 
battery
● Stop the engine. (Ö 13.3)
● Engage the parking brake. (Ö 8.14)
● Remove the ignition key and keep it in a 
safe place.
● Open the battery compartment.

Installation position:
To connect or disconnect the battery (1), 
pull it halfway out of the battery 
compartment and tilt sideways. Then 
guide the battery downwards once more 
and set down – check for secure position.
Disconnecting the battery:
Disconnect the black cable (1) from the 
negative (–) terminal of the battery by 
unscrewing the nut (2) using two A/F 
8 spanners and removing together with the 
screw (3) and washer (4).
Remove the cap (1). Disconnect the red 
cable (2) from the positive (+) terminal of 
the battery by unscrewing the nut (3) using 
two A/F 8 spanners and removing together 
with the screw (4) and washer (5).
● Remove the battery if necessary.
● Attach the screws, washers and nuts to 
the battery terminals for safe keeping.
● If necessary, stow the connection 
cables in the battery compartment and 
close the battery compartment.

Connecting the battery:
● Move the battery into the assembly 
position.
● If necessary, remove the screws, 
washers and nuts from the battery.
Risk of injury!
Always remove the black 
negative (–) cable first and only 
then, the red positive (+) cable.
When connecting the battery, 
always connect the red positive (+) 
cable first.
The battery is maintenance free 
and must only be replaced if it is 
damaged and must be removed in 
the case of prolonged 
immobilisation (e.g. winter break) or 
disposal of the machine.
Do not dispose of the battery with 
domestic waste, but hand it in to a 
specialist dealer or at a hazardous 
waste collection point. 
Check the charge condition of the 
battery before installation.
If the voltage is lower than 11.5 V, 
recharge the battery using a 
suitable battery charger before 
installation.
