Overview

The SpeedTech Lights STRIKER® 1 is a dash light designed for emergency warning needs. It is a professional-grade LED warning device intended for use by authorized personnel.

Function Description:

The STRIKER® 1 serves as a visual warning signal to alert pedestrians and other operators to the presence of personnel, emergency vehicles, or an emergency site. It features multiple flash patterns and can be synchronized with up to two units for coordinated warning signals. The device can be controlled via a wired connection or an optional cigarette lighter plug switch.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Voltage: 12 VDC
  • Amps: < 0.7
  • Optic: TIR (Total Internal Reflection)
  • LED Count: 4
  • Cable Length: 11' Light Bar Cable, 1.5' Cig Plug Cable (Sold Separately)
  • Flash Patterns: 22 distinct flash patterns
  • Dimensions: Approximately 4.1" in length, 1.25" in height, and 2.25" in depth.

Wiring Diagram and Functions:

The device utilizes a multi-wire system for power, control, and synchronization:

  • Red* (Main Power Cable): Positive - Memory Mode 1. Connects to a +12 VDC power source.
  • Black* (Main Power Cable): Negative. Connects to the battery's Ground Post for optimum efficiency.
  • Yellow: Flash Pattern. Contacting this wire to +12 VDC cycles through the flash patterns.
  • Green* (Main Power Cable): Positive - Memory Mode 2. Connects to a +12 VDC power source.
  • White: Sync (Max 2 units). Used to synchronize multiple STRIKER® 1 units.

Usage Features:

  • Flash Pattern Selection: The device offers 22 different flash patterns. These can be cycled through by applying +12 VDC to the Yellow wire.
  • Non-Volatile Memory: The STRIKER® 1 is equipped with non-volatile memory, which recalls the last selected flash pattern when the product is turned on.
  • Flash Pattern Shortcuts:
    • Holding the Flash Pattern wire (Yellow) to +12 VDC for 2 seconds toggles Steady Burn mode.
    • Holding the Flash Pattern wire (Yellow) to +12 VDC for 4 seconds toggles Random pattern mode.
  • Synchronization: Up to two STRIKER® 1 units can be synchronized. To do so, ensure both units are powered on and flashing on the same pattern. Connect the White cables of both units together. Then, connect the Yellow cables of both units together and contact +12 VDC to cycle all units to the next pattern. Powering all units off and back on completes the synchronization. It is recommended to connect both units to a single control switch when syncing.
  • Cigarette Lighter Plug Switch Operation (Sold Separately): An optional cigarette lighter plug switch provides convenient control:
    • On/Off/On Switch:
      • Top On Position: Turns on the Light Bar in Memory Mode 1.
      • Off Position: Turns off the Light Bar.
      • Bottom On Position: Turns on the Light Bar in Memory Mode 2.
    • Flash Pattern Button: Cycles to the next flash pattern with each press. Non-volatile memory recalls the last flash pattern selected. Holding for 3 seconds toggles Steady Burn mode. Holding for 5 seconds toggles Random pattern mode.
  • Mounting Options (Sold Separately): The STRIKER® 1 offers various mounting solutions to suit different vehicle applications:
    • Windshield Visor Assembly: Includes a visor, two end caps, six short screws, and four long screws for mounting the light bar to a vehicle's windshield visor.
    • 90° Suction Cup Bracket: Allows for temporary mounting using suction cups.
    • 360° Suction Cup & L-Brackets: Provides flexible mounting with 360-degree rotation or can be used as L-bracket mounts.
    • Surface Mount End Caps: Replaces standard end caps for surface mounting.
    • Headliner Mounting Bracket: Available in static (one solid piece) and adjustable (base bracket and J-bracket) configurations for mounting to the vehicle's headliner.
    • Static Mounting Bracket: A fixed bracket for secure mounting.

Maintenance Features:

  • Cleaning: The light bar should only be cleaned with water (H2O) and a soft cloth. Avoid using pressure washers, automatic car washes, brushes, chemicals, or similar equipment that may scratch or damage the unit.
  • Lens Replacement: Yellowing of clear lenses may occur over time. Replacement lenses can be purchased by contacting STL Customer Service.
  • Daily Inspection: Users are advised to inspect and test the product daily to ensure it operates properly and is mounted correctly.
  • Troubleshooting: In case of malfunction, contact STL's Customer Service for troubleshooting or warranty claims.
  • Manual Storage: Instruction manuals should be stored in a safe place for future reference or can be found on the SpeedTech Lights website.

Important Safety and Installation Guidelines:

  • Professional Installation: Installers should have a good understanding of automotive electronic systems.
  • Eye Safety: Never stare directly into the LEDs to prevent momentary blindness or eye damage.
  • Power Disconnection: Always disconnect the unit from the power source before cutting wires or performing any work on it.
  • Airbag Safety: Never install the product or route wires through or in the deployment area of airbags, as this can cause serious personal injury. Refer to the vehicle's owner's manual for airbag deployment areas.
  • Drilling Precautions: If drilling is required, ensure no vehicle components are damaged. Deburr all drilled holes and remove metal remnants. Use grommets in all wire passage holes.
  • Wiring Protection: Use grommets, cable ties, and looms to anchor and protect all wiring.
  • Fuses: Properly size and locate fuses as close as possible to the power take-off points. Do not use fuses with a higher amp rating than the initial fuse provided by STL.
  • Electrical Connections: Ensure a secure and good electrical connection to the battery's Negative (-) post. Do not use Circuit Breaks.
  • Control Box Placement: If a control box or remote device is used, install it in a location that allows safe operation without distracting the user while driving.
  • Electromagnetic Interference (EMI): Mount light bars a minimum of 12" - 34" from radio antennas and avoid powering equipment from the same circuit or sharing the same grounding circuit with radio communication equipment to prevent EMI.
  • Secure Mounting: All equipment must be securely attached to a part of the vehicle strong enough to withstand applied forces. Permanent mounting is recommended, especially for exterior units, to prevent dislodging under aggressive driving conditions.
  • Bench Testing: Always bench test units prior to installation by connecting the Red (Positive) and Black (Negative) cables to a power source to ensure all features are functional.
