Warnings and Notices for Users and Installers
This document must be delivered to and read by the end user and installer as it serves to provide you with the required information for proper and
safe use of your STL product. Before operating this or any STL products the user and installer must read this manual all the way through. You will
nd important information in this manual that could prevent property damage and/or serious injury to the user and installer.
STL products are intended to alert pedestrians and other operators of the presence of personnel, the operation of emergency vehicles, an emer-
gency site, and any warning needs. This does not ensure that pedestrians or drivers will react, heed, or observe emergency warning signals. Nor
does the use of emergency signals grant or ensure you the right of way. It is your responsibility to make sure you can proceed safely before driving
against trac, entering an intersection, responding at a high rate of speed, or walking on or around trac lanes.
Your STL emergency vehicle devices should be tested daily to ensure the device and all its functions are operating correctly. If you experience a
malfunction contact STLs Customer Service immediately for troubleshooting options, or a warranty or service claim. You must ensure sure that
the projection of the visual and audible signal is not blocked by vehicle components (i.e.: open trunks, visors, compartment doors), vehicles, other
obstructions, or people.
This is professional grade equipment and is intended for strict use by authorized personnel only. It is the user’s responsibility to understand and
obey all laws regarding emergency warning devices. You must know and be familiar with all applicable city, state, and federal laws and regulations
prior to the use of emergency vehicle warning devices.
SpeedTech Lights, Inc. assumes no liability for any loss resulting from the use of this warning device. Proper installation is vital to the performance
of the warning devices and safe operation of the emergency vehicle. Since the operator is under stressful environments the equipment must be
properly wired and mounted to ensure eectiveness and safety. Therefore controllers must be properly installed and placed within convenient
reach of the operator so eye contact with the roadway is never lost.
The eectiveness of your STL equipment is highly dependent upon correct mounting and wiring. Improper wiring and mounting of the warning
device will reduce the output and performance of the equipment. Emergency warning devices frequently require high electrical voltages and/
or currents. Properly protect and use caution around live electrical connections. Grounding or shorting of electrical connections can cause high
current arcing, which can cause severe personal injury and/or serious vehicle damage, including re.
Electromagnetic interference can be caused by many electronic devices used in emergency vehicles. To ensure that this doesn’t happen to you,
lightbars should be mounted a minimum of 12” - 34” from the radio antenna and do not power your equipment from the same circuit or share the
same grounding circuit with radio communication equipment. After installation, test all the vehicles equipment together to ensure everything
operates free of interference.
Driver and/or passenger airbags bags (SRS) will impact the way you mount your equipment. Any equipment installed in the deployment area of
the airbags will damage or dislodge the airbags and sensors. This will also reduce the eectiveness of the airbags to protect the passengers and
therefore these areas must be avoided. Installers must make sure that this equipment along with any parts, hardware, wiring, power supplies, and
switch boxes do not interfere with the airbags, SRS wiring, or sensors.

Overview

The STL Striker®/Virtue® Interior LED Traffic Series is a professional-grade LED light bar designed for emergency vehicles, providing warning signals to pedestrians and other operators. Manufactured by SpeedTech Lights, Inc., this device is built with the latest technology and features, backed by a 5-year warranty against manufacturing defects. It is intended for strict use by authorized personnel and requires a thorough understanding of automotive electronic systems for proper installation and operation.

Function Description:

The primary function of the STL Striker®/Virtue® Interior LED Traffic Series is to provide visual warning signals. It is equipped with LED modules that can display various flash patterns, including left arrow, right arrow, and center out arrow patterns, as well as a general flash mode. The device also supports a steady burn mode and a random pattern mode. These signals are crucial for alerting others to the presence of emergency personnel, emergency vehicles, or an emergency site. The light bar is designed to be mounted inside a vehicle, either permanently or using suction cups, and is controlled via a direct control box or integrated into an existing switch box.

Important Technical Specifications:

The device operates using a power harness with eight colored leads. The wiring diagram specifies the function of each wire:

  • Green: Left Arrow
  • Blue: Right Arrow
  • Yellow: Flash Pattern
  • Purple: Flash Mode
  • Orange: Center Out Arrow
  • Grey: Slow/Fast
  • Brown: Power
  • *Black (Thick): Negative (main power cable)
  • *Red (Thick): Positive (main power cable)

All cables, except the Negative wire, are designed to contact +VDC. The system incorporates non-volatile memory, allowing it to recall the last selected flash pattern when powered on. Proper fusing is critical, and the manual explicitly states not to use a fuse with a higher amp rating than the initial fuse included and to avoid circuit breakers with STL products. Ground terminations should be made directly to the battery. The current carrying capacity of wires and fuses can be significantly reduced under high ambient temperatures, necessitating the use of SXL type wire in the engine compartment where higher heat resistance is required, in accordance with SAE J-1128.

Usage Features:

The STL Striker®/Virtue® series offers several user-friendly features:

  • Direct Control® Box: This optional control box simplifies operation with dedicated switches.
    • Left On/Off Switch: Turns all LED modules in the light bar on or off.
    • Flash Pattern Button: Cycles through various flash patterns with each press.
    • Steady Burn Mode: Activated by holding the flash pattern button down for 3 seconds.
    • Random Pattern Mode: Activated by holding the flash pattern button down for 5 seconds.
  • Mounting Options:
    • Headliner Bracket: An adjustable bracket system (four pieces per side for adjustable, one solid piece for static) allows for secure mounting to the vehicle's headliner. The forked pieces attach to the back of the bar, pointing away from the LEDs, while rectangular pieces align with mounting locations for optimal fit.
    • 360° Suction Cup Bracket: This bracket attaches to the end cap of the light bar using included hardware and suction cups. It can also be used as an L-bracket mount by simply not attaching the suction cups.
    • Surface Mount End Caps: These allow for surface mounting by replacing the existing end caps.
  • Non-Volatile Memory: The device retains the last selected flash pattern, ensuring consistent operation upon power-up.
  • Wiring Flexibility: While a direct control box is recommended, the device can also be integrated into custom switch boxes by referencing the provided wiring diagram.

Maintenance Features:

To ensure the longevity and optimal function of the STL Striker®/Virtue® light bar, specific maintenance guidelines are provided:

  • Daily Inspection: Users should inspect and test the product daily to ensure it operates properly and is securely mounted. Any malfunctions should be reported to STL Customer Service immediately.
  • Cleaning: The light bar should only be cleaned with water (H2O) and a soft cloth.
    • Avoid: Car washes (automatic or pressure washers), brushes, or chemicals that could scratch or damage the equipment.
  • Lens Replacement: Over time, clear lenses may yellow. Replacement lenses can be purchased by contacting STL Customer Service.
  • Wiring Integrity: Regular checks of wiring connections are recommended to prevent lost power, corrosion, or damage. Soldered connections with heat shrink are preferred for durability.
