Cloth retainer
ATTENTION!
DANGER of finger bruises through unintended actuation
of the treadle during setting works in the needle plate area.
The needle plate is equipped with two slotted cloth retainers which hold the
material alternately on the corresponding plunger during the time of needle
penetration.
Cl. VEB200-1
The pressure of the cloth retainers left (1) and right (2) on the outer material or
the layers of material can be varied by respectively turning the socket left (3)
and right (4); the threaded pin (7) needs to be loosened respectively for
that. The pressure should be as low as possible to avoid any twist or marks
through the pressure between plunger and cloth retainer, mainly when sewing
delicate fabrics such as e.g. velvet.
However, the pressure should be high enough to make sure that the fabric
cannot move during the time of needle penetration. The setting of the cloth
retainer is of great importance with regard to the sewing quality.
Cl. VEB200-2
This class is equipped with two feathered plungers. This makes it possible to
limit both cloth retainers to the top in order to attain sewing without marking on
the outer cloth.
The limit to the top is set by the two knurled screws left (5) and right (6).
Adjusting the pressure, see VEB200-1.
