If your Subaru Engine won't start or runs rough, several factors could be at play. Ensure the air cleaner is clean, and if dirty, clean or replace it. Check that the fuel tank isn't empty; if it is, fill it with gasoline. Stale gasoline can also be a culprit, so drain the fuel tank and carburetor, then refill with fresh fuel. Verify the spark plug wire is correctly connected to the spark plug, and replace the spark plug if it's bad. Also, ensure there's no water in the gasoline by draining the fuel tank and carburetor and refilling with fresh fuel. If the engine is over choked, adjust the choke knob to the NO CHOKE position. Finally, check the oil level and fill the crankcase to the proper level if it's low.
