7.12 LONG TERM STORAGE
Long term storage is defined as intended non-use of
the machine for periods of 6 months or more.
1. Remove air filters and secure.
2. Remove flexible joint between interstage
hard piping and second stage air intake.
Secure removed part.
3. Blow out with dry air to remove all moisture,
first stage block, muffler, intercooler, water
leg and drains, interstage piping. Hang des-
iccant bag(s) in first stage inlet (making sure
bags cannot touch or fall onto rotors) and
outlet end of interstage hard piping. Plug or
blind flange all openings and tag their loca-
tions.
4. Blow out with dry air to remove all moisture,
second stage block, muffler, check valve,
aftercooler, moisture separator and trap.
Place desiccant bag(s) in second stage inlet
(making sure bags cannot be drawn into
rotors when unit is turned slowly) and inside
final discharge flange (after moisture separa-
tor/trap). Plug or blind flange all openings
and tag their locations.
5. Blow out with dry air to remove all moisture
from High Pressure moisture separator, con-
densate lines.
6. Place desiccant bag(s) in control box. (Box
has gasketed door - check for sealing integ-
rity; correct if necessary).
7. Note total desiccant bag count on Customer
Storage Instructions. Blow control lines with
dry air to remove all moisture. Remove and
secure blowdown muffler(s). Blowdown
valve and relief valve openings must be
sealed or plugged.
8. Drain oil from sump and plug. Remove
sump breather and plug breather port.
9. Follow storage instructions in CAT engine
manual.
10. Check that all plugs, seals and blind flanges
which must be removed before start-up have
been tagged.
11. Cover entire machine in heat-shrink plastic.
Tape Customer Storage Instructions in plas-
tic envelope to cover.
12. Monthly, rotate compressor shaft two turns
manually very slowly into normal direction of
rotation (be sure desiccant bags do not get
drawn into rotors).
13. It is preferred that the machine be stored in
an air conditioned facility. If this is not possi-
ble, it should, as a minimum, be protected
from the elements with a suitable cover with
enough ventilation to prevent condensation
collecting within it or the machine.
