Overview

The TC-Helicon VoiceLive Touch 2 is a vocal effects processor designed for live performance and studio use, offering a comprehensive suite of vocal effects, looping capabilities, and intuitive touch-based control. It is intended to help users learn basic functions quickly, with a full user manual available as a PDF download from the TC-Helicon website for more in-depth information.

Function Description

The VoiceLive Touch 2 allows vocalists to apply a wide range of effects to their voice, including harmony, hardtune, delay, reverb, and more. It features a built-in looper for creating multi-layered vocal performances. The device can be connected to a microphone, guitar, MIDI keyboard, and external audio devices like MP3 players, allowing for versatile integration into various setups. Harmony and Hardtune effects can be guided by acoustic instruments via Roomsense microphones, electric instruments connected to the Guitar In or MIDI In, or by manually setting the song's key. The device also offers guitar effects, such as reverb, chorus, compression, and EQ, which are global settings and automatically stored.

Usage Features

The VoiceLive Touch 2 is designed for intuitive interaction through its front panel, which includes mode buttons (Edit, Store, Effects, Voices, Setup, Mix, Loop), nine Matrix buttons in the center, a Slider FX Bar, and Arrow buttons. All buttons require a soft tap to engage.

  • Front Panel Controls:

    • Mode Buttons: Tapping these buttons displays settings that can be changed for each respective mode.
    • Matrix Buttons: In most modes, these buttons select menus or settings. In Home mode, they act as Favorite locations for quick preset access.
    • Slider FX Bar: This touch-sensitive bar allows for quick scrolling through parameter values or presets with a swipe, or fine-tuning with dragging and tapping. In Effects and Loop modes, it controls the assigned effect.
    • Arrow Buttons: Used to navigate through presets, menus, or move the cursor when naming presets. Holding an arrow button can jump to the first or last menu.
    • Tap Button: Used to rhythmically set the global tempo for timed effects (Delay, Rhythmic) and the Loop metronome.
    • Hit Button: Toggles between base and "Hit" variations of a preset, activating or deactivating multiple effects with a single tap. Holding the Hit button mutes all effects, enabling talk mode for audience interaction or guitar tuning.
  • Preset Management:

    • Selecting and Auditioning Presets: In Home mode, users can browse presets using the Slider FX Bar or Arrow buttons. Singing into the mic allows for auditioning. The Tap button can be used to set the tempo for rhythmic effects.
    • Favorites: Nine Matrix buttons can be assigned as Favorite locations for quick access to frequently used presets during a performance. To assign a preset as a Favorite, select the preset, hold the desired Matrix button, and tap Store.
    • Storing Presets: The Store button allows users to rename and save edited presets.
  • Effect Editing:

    • Basic Editing: Tapping the Edit button once displays preset editing screens for individual effects. Matrix buttons select settings, and the Slider FX Bar changes values. Arrow buttons navigate between effect menus.
    • Advanced Editing: Tapping the Edit button again accesses advanced menus with additional settings for effects.
    • Direct Effect Editing: To jump directly to an effect's edit menu, tap the Effects button and hold the Matrix button assigned to that effect.
  • Harmony and Hardtune Effects:

    • Musical Reference: Harmony requires a musical reference from guitar chords (Guitar In), music from an MP3 player (Aux In), chords from a MIDI keyboard (MIDI In), or the key of the song.
    • Roomsense: Built-in Roomsense mics can pick up chords from nearby acoustic instruments to guide Harmony and Hardtune. Users can adjust the ROOMSENSE setting in the INPUT menu.
    • Fixed Key: For acoustic instruments, users can set a fixed key for Harmony and Hardtune in the Harmony edit menu, with options for major or minor scales.
  • Looping:

    • Basic Looping (Home Mode): Users can record loops by tapping the Record button on the downbeat of a rhythmic performance. Tapping Record again stops recording. The Play button allows setting a loop point and overdubbing immediately. Playback can be started/stopped with the Play button. Holding the Record button erases a loop when playback/recording is stopped.
    • Advanced Looping (Loop Mode): Tapping the Loop button accesses additional functions like LoopAssist (metronome and quantization), loop layering (up to 6 independent layers), loop effects controlled by the Slider FX Bar, Erase, and Undo.
    • LoopAssist: The metronome can be turned on (MET:ON) or muted (MET:SHH) for rhythmic assistance.
    • Loop Layering: Users can record additional loop layers in six available slots, selecting and recording new loops while Record is enabled. Layers can be muted/unmuted or soloed using the Matrix buttons.
  • Guitar Effects:

    • Subtle Reverb and Chorus are applied by default when a guitar is connected. Compression and EQ are also available. These are global settings, stored automatically.
    • Guitar effects can be changed in the Setup menu (GUITAR 3/10 and GUITAR 4/10 menus) using Matrix buttons and the Slider FX Bar.

Maintenance Features

  • Firmware Updates: The VoiceLive Touch 2 supports firmware updates via the VoiceSupport software, which can be downloaded and installed on a computer (Microsoft Windows and Mac OS X). This ensures the device can grow with new features and improvements.
  • Troubleshooting: The manual provides guidance for common issues such as feedback, no harmony, incorrect harmony tracking, no guitar sound, and issues with the tuner or input indication.
  • Servicing: All servicing must be performed by qualified personnel. Users are advised to refer to qualified service personnel if the apparatus is damaged in any way, such as a damaged power-supply cord or plug, liquid spills, objects falling into the apparatus, exposure to rain or moisture, or if it does not operate normally or has been dropped.
  • Cleaning: The apparatus should only be cleaned with a dry cloth.
  • Safety: Users are cautioned against making changes or modifications not expressly approved in the manual, as this could void the warranty. The device should not be used near water, blocked ventilation openings, or heat sources. Only manufacturer-specified attachments/accessories should be used.
