When the aircraft reaches the engagement limit, ESP ramps
up
the servo torque command to
adJUM
the aircrall back toward
Lero
pit<..h
attitude. ESP uses a rate command
to
dnvc
the atti-
tude back to the nominal range and docs not try to control to a spccilic atlltude.
A
~
the pitch Jl-
titude returns
to
the nominal range, the torque and pitch rate are n:duccd until the aircralt rcJches
the disengagement limit at which time ESP turns
ofT.
The di;engagemcnt threshold
is
siLcd so
that the transition from ESP being active
to
being inactive
is
transparent
to
the pilot (no tran-
sient when
E~P
turns
011).
If, when E
SP
engages, the aircraft continues to pitch away from the nominal attitude range the
torqui: command will mcrcase with increasing pitch deviation. Ahovc the upper di;i:ngagc-
mcnt limu spccilied m the ccrtilication gain file ESP will be disabled.

ROLL
MODE
Roll mode
is
similar to pitch mode and also utilizes conligurable gam lile parameters
to
de-
fine engagement and disengagement limits as well as the speed and torque curves.
The engagement and dbengagemcnt attitude limits arc displayed with double hJsh marks
on thi: roll indicator when ESP
is
available and /
or
active. The lack
of
double ha;h marks
above 200
ft
AGL (when autopilot
is
not eonnecti:d)
is
a clear indication that ESP
is
not
available.
Values for the symmetric roll attitude limits are as follows:
Engagement low threshold: +/- 45°
Engagemi:nt upper threshold: +/- 75°
Lower disengage threshold:+/- 30°
Elcctromc ;tab1luy and protection action starts at the predetermined bank angle. Since
crossing thi; hank angle results
in
a change
in
aircraft stability (and therefore handling
characteristics)

When ESP
1;
inactive (roll attitude within nominal limits) only the engagement limits
arc displayed
in
order to reduce cluller on the roll indicator. As the bank.
