B.McCauleydoesnotapprovethechromeplatingofMcCauleypropellerspinners.Fieldexperiencehas
shownthatchromeplatedspinnersoftenpeelafterashorttimeinservice.Strongevidencealsoexists
thatchromeplatingcanleadtospinnerfatiguecracking,thusscrappingthespinnershell.Chrome
platingwillvoidtheMcCauleywarranty.
5.PropellerInternalLubrication
A.ServicingofPropellerInternalLubrication
(1)General
(a)Unlesssignicantoilleakageisobserved,periodicservicingoftheoilinMcCauleyoillled
propellersisnotnecessary.
6.DeiceBootRemovalandInstallation
A.RemovePropellerDeiceBoots.
WARNING:Cementandsolventvaporsaretoxicandextremelyammable.
Usethesechemicalsonlyinawellventilatedareaaway
fromsparksandvapors.Excessexposurecouldcause
injuryordeath.Ifdizzinessornauseaoccur,gettofresh
airimmediately.Avoidcontactwithskinoreyes.Use
solvent-resistantglovestominimizeskinexposure.Use
safetyglassestoprotectyoureyesfromchemicals.Ifyou
getchemicalsinyoureyes,ushyoureyeswithwaterfor15
minutesandseeaphysicianimmediately.Ifyougetchemicals
onyourskin,washthoroughlywithsoapandwater.Ifyou
swallowchemicals,donotinducevomiting.Seeaphysician
immediately.Beforeworkisstarted,alwaysrefertothe
MaterialSafetyDataSheet(MSDS)forallchemicalsusedto
removeandinstallthedeiceboot(s).
(1)Cutthesta-strapsanddisconnectbootelectricalleadfromtheslipring.
NOTE:McCauleydoesnotrecommendthereinstallationofadeicebootthathaspreviously
beeninservice.
NOTE:AllofthedeicebootscurrentlyusedonMcCauleyconstantspeedcomposite
propellersareoftheintegralleadtypedesign.Nodetachableleadtypedeiceboots
arecurrentlyusedonMcCauleyconstantspeedcompositepropellers.
CAUTION:Whenremovingbootsfromacompletepropellerassembly,care
mustbetakentopreventsolventfromleakingintothepropeller
hubandcausingdamagetotheseals.Thebladebeingworkedon
shouldbepointeddownsoallexcesssolventwillruntotheoutboard
tipoftheblade.Asanextraprecautionarymeasure,thehuband
bladeareashouldbemasked.Donotuseanysharpobjectswhich
mightscratchthebladewhenremovingtheboot.
(2)Usingmethyln-propylketoneortoluoltosoftenadhesionlinebetweenthedeicebootand
propellerblade,startatonecorner,loosenenoughoftheboottograspwithvisegrips,pliers,or
similartool.
(3)Applyasteadypulltoremoveboot;pullthebootfromthebladeslowlyandcarefullywhile
continuingtousealiberalamountofmethyln-propylketoneortoluoltosoftentheadhesion
line.
