What to do if my THORLABS Security Sensors have no signal response?

  If your THORLABS Security Sensors aren't showing a signal response, first ensure the power is on and all connections are secure. Next, if you're using a voltage measurement device, confirm the correct terminating resistor is installed. Also, check that the optical signal wavelength falls within the specified range and that the optical signal is properly illuminating the detector's active area. Finally, connect the DET to an oscilloscope without a terminating resistor. If a 60 Hz (or 50 Hz outside the US) signal appears when pointed at a fluorescent light, the device is likely working, and the issue may be with the light source or alignment.

Why does the output of my THORLABS DET100A appear AC coupled with long rise times?

  If the output of your THORLABS Security Sensors seems AC coupled with long rise times while the power switch is ON, it typically indicates that the battery level is low and needs to be replaced. Please refer to the Battery Check and Replacement Section for instructions.

Why is there an AC signal present in my THORLABS DET100A when the unit is turned off?

  It's normal to observe an output response to an AC signal when your THORLABS Security Sensors are turned off because the detector has an AC path to ground even with the switch in the OFF position. However, operation in this mode is not recommended because the detector is unbiased.
