servicinga(dry)batterythathasreplacedthe
originalbattery.Theoriginal(wet)batterydoesnot
requireservice.
Alwayskeepthebatterycleanandfullycharged.Use
apapertoweltocleanthebatterycase.Ifthebattery
terminalsarecorroded,cleanthemwithasolutionof
fourpartswaterandonepartbakingsoda.Applyalight
coatingofgreasetothebatteryterminalstoreduce
corrosion.

CheckingtheElectrolyteLevel
1.Stoptheengineandremovethekey.
2.Removethe4boltssecuringthebatterycoverand
removeitfromoverthebattery.
3.Lookatthesideofthebattery.Theelectrolytemust
beuptotheUpperline(Figure37).Donotallowthe
electrolytetofallbelowtheLowerline(Figure37).

distilledwater;refertoAddingWatertotheBattery.
AddingWatertotheBattery
Thebesttimetoadddistilledwatertothebatteryisjust
beforeyouoperatethetractionunit.Thisletsthewater
mixthoroughlywiththeelectrolytesolution.
Batteryelectrolytecontainssulfuricacidwhich
isadeadlypoisonandcausessevereburns.
Donotdrinkelectrolyteandavoidcontact
withskin,eyesorclothing.Wearsafety
glassestoshieldyoureyesandrubbergloves
toprotectyourhands.
Fillthebatterywherecleanwaterisalways
availableforushingtheskin.
1.Removethebatteryfromthetractionunit.
Important:Neverllthebatterywithdistilled
waterwhilethebatteryisinstalledinthetraction
unit.Electrolytecouldbespilledonotherparts
andcausecorrosion.
2.Cleanthetopofthebatterywithapapertowel.
3.Removethellercapsfromthebattery(Figure37).
4.Slowlypourdistilledwaterintoeachbatterycell
untiltheelectrolytelevelisuptotheUpperline
(Figure37)onthebatterycase.
Important:Donotoverllthebatterybecause
electrolyte(sulfuricacid)cancausesevere
corrosionanddamagetothechassis.
5.Waitvetotenminutesafterllingthebatterycells.
Adddistilledwater,ifnecessary,untiltheelectrolyte
