Neveroperatethelawnmowerunlessyouinstalla
coverplate,amulchplate,grassdeectororbagger.
1.Removethelocknut,bolt,springandspacerholding
thedeectortothepivotbrackets(Figure61).Remove
thedamagedorworngrassdeector.

3.Installtheboltandnut.PlaceoneJhookendofthe
springaroundthegrassdeector(Figure61).
Important:Thegrassdeectormustbeable
torotate.Liftthedeectoruptothefullopen
positionandensurethatitrotatesintothefull
downposition.
Storage
1.Disengagethepowertakeoff(PTO),settheparking
brake,andturntheignitionkeytooff.Removethekey.
2.Removegrassclippings,dirt,andgrimefromthe
externalpartsoftheentiremachine,especiallythe
engine.Cleandirtandchafffromtheoutsideofthe
engine'scylinderheadnsandblowerhousing.
Important:Youcanwashthemachinewithmild
detergentandwater.Donotpressurewashthe
machine.Avoidexcessiveuseofwater,especially
neartheshiftleverplate,andengine.
3.Checkthebrake;refertoCheckingtheBrakes(page31).
4.Servicetheaircleaner;referto
ServicingtheAirCleaner(page25).
5.Greaseandlubricatethemachine;referto
Lubrication(page24).
6.Changethecrankcaseoil;referto
ChangingtheEngineOil(page26).
7.Checkthetirepressure;referto
CheckingtheTirePressure(page30).
8.Forlong-termstorage:
A.Addstabilizer/conditioneradditivetofuelinthe
tank.
B.Runenginetodistributeconditionedfuelthrough
thefuelsystem(5minutes).
C.Stopengine,allowtocoolanddrainthefuel
tank;refertoServicingtheFuelTankin
FuelSystemMaintenance(page28),oroperate
engineuntilitstops.
D.Restartengineandrununtilitstops.Repeat,on
Chokeuntilenginewillnotrestart.
E.Disposeoffuelproperly.Recycleasperlocal
codes.
Note:Donotstorestabilizer/conditioned
gasolineover90days.
