Whencuttinglimbsfromastandingtree,use
thefollowingpractices:
Donotclimbonlimbsorbrancheswitha
chainsaw.
Donotoverreach,andcutwithbothhands
onthechainsaw.
Ensurethatallbystandersareawayfrom
theareawherebranchesmayfall.
1.GripthechainsawasshowninFigure12.
2.Whilecuttingsmallbranches,applylight
pressuretothebranchtobecut.
3.Whilecuttinglargerbranches,makeashallow
undercutandthencompletethecutfromthe
topsideofthebranch.
A.Cutfromtheundersideofthelimbabout15
cm(6inches)fromthetrunk.Cutathirdof
thewaythroughthelimb.
B.Cut5.0to10.0cm(2to4inches)farther
outonthelimbandfromabove.Cutthe
limbuntilitfalls.
C.Cutthelimbstubatthebranchcollar
(Figure14).
Important:Donotcutthelimbpastthe
collar,ushtothetrunk,orleavealarge
limbstub;thisdamagesthetree.
