Important:Thefastenersonthecoversofthis
machinearedesignedtoremainonthecover
afterremoval.Loosenallofthefastenerson
eachcoverafewturnssothatthecoverisloose
butstillattached,thengobackandloosenthem
untilthecovercomesfree.Thispreventsyou
fromaccidentallystrippingtheboltsfreeofthe
retainers.
Squealingwhenthebeltisrotating,bladesslipping
whencuttinggrass,frayedbeltedges,burnmarks
andcracksaresignsofawornmowerbelt.Replace
themowerbeltifanyoftheseconditionsareevident.
1.Parkthemachineonalevelsurface,disengage
theblade-controlswitch,andengagetheparking
brake.
2.Shutofftheengine,removethekey,andwait
forallmovingpartstostopbeforeleavingthe
operatingposition.
3.Loosenthebottomboltholdingthemower-deck
curtaintothemowerdeck;refertoReleasing
theMower-DeckCurtain(page42).
4.Removethesheetmetalguard;referto
RemovingtheSheet-MetalGuard(page42)
5.Removethebeltcoversandtheboltsattached
tothem.
6.Loosenthexedidlerarmandadjustittorelieve
belttension(Figure90).
7.Removetheoldbelt.
8.Installthenewbeltonthepulleys.
9.Insertaratchetwithashortextensionora
breakerbarintothesquareholeinthexedidler
arm(Figure90).
10.Adjustthemowerdecktothe76mm(3inch)
height-of-cutposition.
11.Toincreasethebelttension,rotatetheratchetor
breakerbarcounterclockwisetomovethexed
idlerarmuntilthereis16.5cm(6-1/2inches)
betweenthespringhooks(Figure90).
