Installing in Extra Thick Walls
If the wall sleeve is being installed in a thick wall where the wall sleeve is recessed more than 3
inches, an extended wall sleeve will be required with depths as stipulated in the section,
“Preparing the Wall,” p. 7. If the wall sleeve is being installed in a wall where the recess is 3" or
less, and an extended wall case is not used, flashing must be installed under the wall sleeve and
extend up to 2 inches on each side. The flashing must include a drip rail as shown below.
NNoottee:: It is critical to caulk around the perimeter of the wall sleeve on all four sides where it joins
the building to prevent air or water intrusion.
