(vapor, liquid, and/or solid), all hazard precautions given in the data sheet must be
observed. Warning. Sudden release of hot organic chemical vapors or mists from process
equipment operating at elevated temperature and pressure, or sudden ingress of air into
vacuum equipment, may result in ignitions without the presence of obvious ignition
sources.
Other Precautions: Ethylene glycol's vapor pressure is such that at room temperature
toxic concentrations are unlikely to occur. Poisoning resulting from vapor usually occurs
only if ethylene glycol is heated; therefore, occupational exposure is rare.
Spills on hot fibrous insulations may lead to lowering of the autoignition temperatures
possibly resulting in spontaneous combustion.
Section VIII - Exposure Controls/Personal Protection
Respiratory Protection: Atmospheric levels should be maintained below the exposure
guideline. When respiratory protection is required for certain operations, use an
MSHA/NIOSH-approved air-purifying respirator.
Ventilation: Good general ventilation should be sufficient for most conditions. Local
exhaust ventilation may be necessary for some operations.
Protective Clothing: Use impervious gloves when prolonged or frequent contact could
occur. Use safety glasses. If vapor exposure causes eye irritation, use a full-face
respirator.
Other Protective Clothing or Equipment: An eye wash and safety shower should be in
close proximity.
Work/Hygienic Practices: All employees who handle this product should wash their
hands before eating, drinking, smoking, or using toilet facilities.
