This document describes the Trane XL20i split system cooling unit, a high-efficiency outdoor air conditioner designed for residential and light commercial applications. It is available in 2, 3, 4, and 5-ton capacities and incorporates advanced technologies for enhanced performance, comfort, and ease of maintenance.
The XL20i is a split system cooling unit, meaning it works in conjunction with an indoor air handler or furnace coil to provide air conditioning. Its primary function is to extract heat from the indoor air and release it outdoors, thereby cooling the living or working space. The unit utilizes R-410A refrigerant, an environmentally friendly hydrofluorocarbon.
A key feature of the XL20i is its two CLIMATUFF® compressors, which enable 50% and 100% capacity modulation. This means the unit can operate at two different cooling levels, allowing it to precisely match the cooling demand of the space. During milder conditions, it can run at 50% capacity, saving energy and providing quieter operation. When the demand for cooling is higher, it can switch to 100% capacity for maximum comfort. This modulation capability contributes to its high efficiency, achieving up to 20 SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio).
The unit is designed for low ambient cooling, capable of operating down to 55°F as shipped, which can be useful in certain climates or for specific applications requiring cooling even when outdoor temperatures are not extremely high. For even lower ambient cooling requirements, an application guide is available.
The XL20i integrates with Trane's ComfortLink™ II system, a sophisticated two-wire control connection that simplifies installation and enhances communication between the outdoor unit and the indoor section. This system allows for Plug-n-Play setup, streamlining the installation process and ensuring optimal system performance.
The XL20i is engineered to provide reliable and comfortable cooling with several features aimed at enhancing the user experience.
Ease of maintenance is a significant aspect of the XL20i's design, incorporating features that simplify servicing and ensure long-term performance.
The XL20i is designed with an emphasis on both advanced performance and user-friendly maintenance, aiming to provide a reliable, efficient, and comfortable cooling solution for years to come.
