Possible applications
TheDT-156isanextremelycompactandveryversa-
tile measuring instrument, which has been specially
developed for the fast, precise and non-destructive
measurement of coating thicknesses. The main appli-
cations lie in the field of protection against corrosion.
the BB 20 is extremely well suited for a wide variety of
applications and is ideal for manufacturers and their
customers, for offices, surveyors and experts, for paint
shops and galvanising operations and for the chemi-
cal, automotive, shipbuilding and aircraft industries. In
addition, the ergonomically formed appliance is parti-
cularly well suited for applications in light and heavy
mechanical engineering, in laboratories, in workshops
and outdoors. The sensor exploits two physical princi-
ples. It works according to both the magnetic induction
and the eddy current principle. The sensor measures
the coating thickness on both ferrous/ferromagnetic
and non-ferrous substrates and can also be used for
special tasks, e.g. for particular geometries or on ma-
terials with special characteristics.
Appliance description
The BB 20 works according to two different principles,
depending on the substrate: the measuring instrument
uses the magentic induction principle for measure-
ments on ferrous materials and the eddy current prin-
ciple for measurements on non-ferrous substrates.
The measured values appear together with further
user information on the easily readable display. The
display is equipped with background lighting, which
facilitates reading under poor lighting conditions.
There are two different modes of operation: DIRECT
mode and GROUP mode.
It is recommended that you use the DIRECT mode for
individual, fast measurements. This mode supplies
information for statistical analyses. No individual va-
lues are stored. The program can analyse up to 80
measured values.
GROUP mode allows the user to store the measured
values in a freely configurable memory. Up to 400
measured values and 4 series of measurements can
be recorded and analysed according to certain criteria.

Sensor
The sensor rests on contact springs in the sensor bus-
hing. They are intended to ensure that the sensor is
protected and correctly positioned and applied with
the same constant pressure. A V-groove in the bus-
hing ensures that measurements performed on small
cylindrical parts are reliable and accurate. The tip of
the sensor is made of a hard and durable material.
Hold the sensor against the measurement object via
the spring-loaded contact bushing.
To measure, press the appliance with the spring-loaded
measuring tip against the surface to be measured.
