If the engine is flooded, pull the starter rope up to 10-15 times. Old or improperly mixed fuel can also be a culprit, so drain the tank and add a fresh fuel mixture. A fouled spark plug or a plugged spark arrestor might also prevent starting; in this case, replace or clean these components. Lastly, extreme temperatures (below 40º F or above 90º F) can affect engine start.
