6.8 Start-up Check List
6.8.1 Before Start-up
6.8.1.1 Personnel Considerations
The personnel responsible for commissioning, operation, maintenance, inspection and assembly must be suitably qualified and
authorized. The scope of responsibility and supervision of the personnel must be precisely defined by the plant operator. The
plant operator must ensure that the operating instructions are fully understood by the personnel.
6.8.1.2 Pump Considerations
o Verify the correct location of the equipment.
o Verify the correct leveling of the equipment.
o Verify the correct alignment of the equipment.
o Verify that the pump is adequately lubricated.
o Verify that the pump rotates freely.
o Verify that all auxiliary connections are correctly connected.
o Verify that the pump is primed.
o Verify that all guards are properly installed. o Verify that all guards are properly installed.
o Verify that there are no loose parts and/or lubricant residues near the pump and its moving parts.
6.8.1.3 Engine Considerations
o Verify correct electrical connection.
o Verify the regulation of protections.
o Verify that all the protections are correctly installed.
o Verify the direction of rotation of the pump.
o Verify that there are no loose parts and/or lubricant residues near the motor and its moving parts.
6.8.1.4 System Considerations
o Verify the correct installation of the piping system.
o Verify that the valves are open.
6.8.2 After Start-up
6.8.2.1 Pump Considerations
o Check suction and discharge pressure.
o Check flow rate.
o Monitor bearing temperature.
6.8.2.2 Engine Considerations
o Take records of electrical parameters, current and voltage.
o Verify that the electrical parameters do not exceed the regulations given for each motor.
