7.7 Stamp with Estopa Press
There are two executions of stuffing box sealing, the standard execution, for clean fluids, see figure 22 and the special
execution with lantern ring for dirty fluids, this execution needs external lubrication with clean and fresh fluid, see figure 23.
For more details of operation and maintenance of the gland sealing system refer to the annex SERVICE AND MAINTENANCE
Gland Sealing. However, in general, when a new pump is operated for the first time or the packing has been renewed, the
operation of the packing should be carefully observed periodically. During the first hours of operation the packing press may
leak quite a lot, approximately 100 drops per minute. Later in normal operation, a leakage of only 5 to 30 drops per minute
should be maintained. When selecting the type of packing, observe the quality, the temperature of the liquid to be pumped and
the material of the pump shaft.
