f) Diode test
Make sure that the circuit components, circuits and components to be measured or any other
measuring objects are voltage-free and discharged.
Determined by the design the black measuring tip corresponds to the anode when using this meas-
uring function!
During the diode test, a diode’s forward voltage “U“ (UF = ow direction, UR = reverse direction) and the operating
current “I“ (IF = ow direction, IR = reverse direction) is calculated.
Proceed as follows to conduct a diode test:
- Turn the rotary switch to the measuring function “Ω” and the measuring range ap-
propriate for your diode. Start with the lowest range (x100k/1.5 μA) and then switch
step by step to a higher range (up to max. x1/150 mA).
- Connect the black test lead to the COM socket (6) and the red test lead to the V/Ω
socket (7).
- Zero the multimeter using the adjustment screw (3).
- Make sure that the “Vrms/Vp-p” button (9) is not pressed.
- Connect both test leads and wait until the scale indicator has stabilized. The
display should show a value of approx. 0 ohm. Zero the meter to 0 ohm using the
0 ohm adjustment knob (8) in case of deviation. If a zero adjustment cannot be
conducted, the micro (AAA) batteries are in need of replacement.
- In order to measure the ow direction, connect the black measuring tip with the
anode and the red measuring tip with the cathode. Always also conduct a counter-
pole measurement.
- Read the measured value for the voltage (UF/UR) from the “LV” scale using the
unit volt (V).
- The operating current (IF/IR) is shown on the “LI” scale. The unit corresponds to the selected measuring range
(μA/mA).
The operating current can be selected from 1.5 μA to 150 mA. Caution! Too high a current may damage the
component at hand.
- If no value is shown, the diode is measured in reverse direction or the diode is defective (interrupted).
- After measurement, turn the rotary switch to position “OFF” to turn off the multimeter.
