Seawater filter, checking and
cleaning
NOTE! Close the sea cock and drain the water from
the seawater system before cleaning the sea water fil-
ter.
Volvo Penta offers two types of seawater filter.
One is a smaller filter with a transparent perspex co-
ver, and the other is larger and has a metal cover.
The filter cleaning intervals depend largely on opera-
ting conditions and can be determined according to
experience after operating your boat for a time.
This means that cleaning the filter may need to be
carried more frequently than stated in the maintenan-
ce schedule.
NOTE! It is vital that the flow of seawater is never
restricted in any way.

Clean insert and housing (2).

Reinstall the parts as shown in the figures. Check
gaskets and O ring. Replace if required.

Open the sea cock and check for leaks.
Remove cover (1) and lift up insert.
