Themainpurposeofcoolantistotransportheatfromthehotpartsoftheenginetothe
radiatorandtoprotectthecoolingsystemfromcorrosion.
Inadditiontothis,thecoolantmust:
Protectagainstpittingandcavitationerosiondamageofthewaterpumpandcylinder
liners.
Protectagainstfreezingandboiling.
Preventformationofscale,sludgedepositsandclogging.
Beharmlesstopolymermaterialsandsealsinthecoolingsystem.
Maintainitsliquidpropertiesincoldclimates.
Manyenginefailurescanbetracedbacktoaprobleminthecoolingsystem.Ifthecoolant
levelisallowedtogobelowthebottomofthetank,thereistheriskoftheengineshutting
down.Seetheoperatorsmanualformoreinformationonthewarningfunctions.
Note:AlwaysdisposeofcoolantaccordingtoFederalorlocalregulations.Takeallused
coolanttoarecyclingorwastecollectioncenter.
Coolantmixtureconsistingofanantifreezesolutioninwatershouldbeusedyear-roundto
providefreezeandboil-overprotectionaswellasprovidingastableenvironmentforseals
andhoses.
Note:DONOTuseantifreezeformulatedforautomobilegasolineengines.Thesehavea
veryhighsilicatecontentthatwillclogtheradiatorandleaveunwanteddepositsinthe
engine.
