Overview

The Weltem Portable Air Conditioner, Model WPC-9000, is designed for efficient spot cooling in large areas where cooling the entire space is impractical, as well as for general room cooling in smaller environments. This versatile unit is suitable for a variety of applications, including factories, workplaces, industrial kitchens, computer rooms, emergency cooling scenarios, and outdoor events.

Function Description

The WPC-9000 operates by drawing in ambient air, cooling it, and then discharging the cool air through its outlets. It features a dedicated spot cooling thermostat for precise temperature control in specific zones. For broader room cooling, the unit regulates temperature based on the ambient air. The core cooling mechanism involves a compressor and evaporator, which work together to remove heat from the air. Hot air generated during the cooling process is expelled through a top fan exhaust flange, which can be optionally fitted with an ambient air adapter to duct condenser air away, further improving cooling efficiency.

The unit is equipped with a self-diagnostic function that monitors its operation and displays any faults on the control panel. In the event of an abnormal operation, an alarm indicator will light up (blink), and a specific fault code will be displayed. During such events, the compressor and condenser fan motor will stop, while the evaporator fan continues to run for a short period to allow for rectification. If the fault persists, the evaporator fan also stops, requiring the issue to be resolved before normal operation can resume.

Safety is a key aspect of the WPC-9000's design. It incorporates several safety devices, including a compressor overload protector, an anti-freezing thermistor, a full drain tank switch, and a high-pressure switch. An automatic restart function ensures that the unit resumes operation after a power interruption, and a compressor time delay program helps protect the compressor from rapid cycling.

Usage Features

The WPC-9000 is designed for ease of use and portability. It features caster wheels, allowing for easy movement to different locations. The unit should always be transported and stored in an upright position, and placed on an even, level surface during operation.

The control panel provides intuitive access to various functions:

  • POWER BUTTON: Activates and deactivates the unit. When pressed to start, the fan begins on a low speed.
  • BLOWER BUTTON: Allows users to switch between low and high fan speeds.
  • SPOT/COOL BUTTON: Engages the compressor to produce cool air, regulating temperature based on the outlet cool air temperature.
  • ROOM/COOL BUTTON: Activates the compressor for room cooling, regulating temperature based on the inlet ambient air temperature.
  • SET TEMP BUTTONS (UP/DOWN): Used to adjust the target temperature or data values. Continuous pressing allows for larger adjustments.
  • CURRENT TEMP Display: Shows the current room temperature in Fahrenheit (in Room Cool Mode) or outlet cool air temperature (in Spot Cool Mode). The display can be toggled between Fahrenheit and Celsius.
  • TARGET TEMP Display: Shows the unit's set temperature for Room/Cool mode.
  • OFF-TIMER: A timer function can be set to automatically stop the compressor after a specified duration.

The unit's display also provides visual feedback on operating modes, set temperatures, and any detected faults. For instance, if the condensate water tank is full, an alarm will be displayed, and the unit's operation will stop until the tank is emptied.

Maintenance Features

Regular maintenance is crucial for the WPC-9000 to ensure optimal performance and efficiency. The unit has two filters: an evaporator filter located at the front and a condenser filter on the side.

Filter Cleaning:

  1. Evaporator Filter: To access, two bolts on the front filter guard need to be loosened. The filter can then be slid up for removal.
  2. Condenser Filter: To access, the side filter needs to be lifted slightly from the middle bar, then angled outwards from the bottom for removal.
  3. Cleaning Process: For light dust, a vacuum cleaner can be used. For heavy dust and dirt, the filters can be washed with warm water and mild soap or a neutral detergent. Harsh chemicals should be avoided to prevent damage.
  4. Drying and Reinstallation: After cleaning, the filters should be dried in a shaded area before being reinstalled. It is important not to operate the unit without the filters installed and the filter guards closed.
  5. Frequency: Filters should be cleaned regularly, at least every two weeks, to maintain efficiency and prevent a decline in output performance and an increase in energy consumption.

Condensate Water Tank Spring Replacement:

The unit features two springs on the rear of the condensate water tank guide. If a spring needs replacement:

  1. Release the screw on the spring hook.
  2. Remove the spring hook and pull out the opposite spring hook from the hole in the condensate water tank guide.
  3. Replace with a new spring in reverse order.
  4. Repeat the process for the other spring if necessary.

Troubleshooting:

The manual provides a troubleshooting chart to help users identify and resolve common issues, such as water leakage, the unit not working, lack of cold air, and alarm displays related to condensate water levels or drain pump issues. This self-help guide, along with the self-diagnostic alarm codes, empowers users to address minor problems before contacting service personnel.

Overall, the Weltem WPC-9000 is a robust and user-friendly portable air conditioner designed for effective cooling in various environments, with built-in features for safety, ease of operation, and straightforward maintenance.
