  If the router bit slips in the collet, it could be that the collet and mating arbor taper are pitted from acids and oil in the wood and need cleaning. To resolve this, remove the collet from the router, and using a plastic scrubbing pad, clean the outer taper of the collet and the interior taper of the arbor. Ensure there is no plastic or metal debris left over from the cleaning before reinserting the collet. Alternatively, the router bit may be damaged, in which case you should stop using it and replace it with a new one.

  If the motor does not start, it could be due to a damaged or improperly plugged-in power cord. Check the power cord, power plug, and the power outlet, and do not use the machine if the power cord is damaged. Another possible cause is worn motor carbon brushes. Inspect the carbon brushes and replace them as needed.
