Starter Disassembly
1.
Disconnect the wire from the magnetic switch

Loosen
the two screws fastening the magnetic switch.
Remove
the magnetic switch
assembly.
3.
Remove
the two through bolts
and
two
screws
fastening the brush holder.
Remove
the
rear
bracket.
4.
With
two brushes brought
in
a floating
state,
remove
the yoke
and
brush
holder
assembly.
Then,
pull
the
armature
out.
5.
Remove
the
cover,
pry the
snap
ring
out,
and
remove
the
washer.
6.
Unscrew the bolts
and
remove
the center
bracket.
At
the
same
time,
washers
for pinion shaft
end
play
adjustment will come
off.
7.
Pull
out the reduction gear lever
and
lever spring from the front bracket.
8.
On
the pinion
side,
pry the
snap
ring
out,
and
pull
out
the
pinion
and
pinion
shaft.
9.
At
each
end
of the
armature,
remove
the
ball
bearing
with a
bearing
puller.
It
is
impossible to replace
the
ball
bearing press-fitted
in
the front bracket. If that
bearing
has
worn
off,
replace the front bracket
assembly.
