This document describes the Whynter 12,000 BTU Dual Hose Portable Air Conditioner with 3M and Silvershield Filter, model ARC-126MD. This portable air conditioner is designed to provide cooling and dehumidification for indoor spaces, offering flexibility and ease of use.
The Whynter ARC-126MD is a compact, CFC-free, lead-free, and energy-efficient portable air conditioner. It utilizes an ECO-FRIENDLY CFC-free GREEN R-410A refrigerant and RoHS compliant components. This dual-hose unit is designed to cool rooms faster and minimize negative air pressure situations. It can also function as a single-hose unit if the outside temperature is significantly higher or more humid than the room, by detaching the intake hose.
The unit offers four operational modes: Cool, Auto, Fan, and Dry (Dehumidifier).
Cooling Mode: In this mode, the air conditioner cools and dehumidifies the room. The compressor activates approximately 3 minutes after the mode is set. Hot air is exhausted from the outdoor exhaust port, requiring the exhaust hose to be connected. The temperature setting range is from 62°F / 17°C to 88°F / 30°C. The unit has a 5°F temperature cushion; if the set temperature is within 5°F of the ambient temperature, the unit runs in fan-only mode to save energy and prolong compressor life. Fan speed can be adjusted, though the difference in noise level may be less noticeable when the compressor is active.
Dry (Dehumidifying) Only Mode: This mode primarily dehumidifies the room. The compressor activates intermittently based on ambient temperature, and the fan speed is set to LOW. The exhaust hose does not need to be vented in this mode. If vented, the room will also cool as it dehumidifies. To prevent cooling, the exhaust hose can be removed from the window kit, allowing warm air to recirculate. If room temperature exceeds 77°F, the fan speed can be adjusted; otherwise, it remains at Low. The unit does not have a humidistat for setting specific humidity levels.
Automatic Mode: When set to Auto mode, the unit automatically selects either cooling or fan-only operation based on the room's temperature. The fan speed is automatically selected and cannot be manually changed in this mode.
Fan Only Mode: In this mode, only the fan operates, circulating air within the room without cooling. The temperature cannot be set in this mode, but the fan speed can be adjusted. This mode does not require the use of both exhaust and intake hoses.
Timer Function: The unit features a 24-hour programmable timer for delayed switch ON or OFF. The delay can be set in 0.5-hour increments up to 10 hours, then in 1-hour increments up to 24 hours.
Sleep Mode: In Sleep mode (available during cooling), the set temperature gradually increases by 1°C/2°F over the first 30 minutes, and then by another 1°C/2°F after an additional 30 minutes. This new temperature remains for 7 hours, reducing noise and conserving energy.
Auto Restart: In case of a power outage, the air conditioner will restart with its previously set function mode and settings once power is restored.
Air Flow Direction Control: The louvers can be set to Auto-Swing for continuous air flow direction adjustment or fixed at a desired angle.
Water Drainage: The unit has a dehumidifying capacity of 61 pints per day. Its patented self-evaporating function exhausts most condensation automatically in environments with humidity below 70%. In higher humidity, it can still exhaust about 98% of moisture, with the remaining 2% collected in the water tank. When the water reservoir is full, the unit beeps and displays "P1," disabling all operation modes except continuous fan until drained. Manual drainage involves removing the bottom drain plug. Continuous drainage is possible by removing the upper drain plug and installing a drain hose, recommended for uninterrupted operation.
Control Panel and Remote Control: The unit can be operated via a control panel located on the top of the unit or a remote control. The remote control transmits signals up to 8 meters (26 feet) and requires two LR03 AAA 1.5V batteries. The remote allows control over power, mode selection, fan speed, timer, sleep mode, and swing function. It also has a shortcut button to restore previous settings.
LED Display: The LED display shows the set temperature in °C or °F and the AUTO timer setting in Cool mode. In Dry and Fan-only modes, it displays the room temperature. Error codes like E1 (Room temperature sensor error), E2 (Evaporator sensor error), E3 (Condenser sensor error), E4 (Display panel sensor error), and P1 (Water reservoir full) are also displayed.
Installation: The unit should be placed on a hard, level surface with at least 20 inches of clearance for efficient air conditioning. It has casters for mobility on smooth surfaces. Exhaust and intake hoses are extendable up to 59 inches. Hose connectors snap onto the unit and window adapters. The hoses should be kept as short and straight as possible for optimal performance. The window slider kit is designed for most standard vertical and horizontal windows, with adjustable lengths from 26.5" to 48". Foam seals are provided to secure the window kit and seal gaps. Security brackets can be used for long-term installation.
Leakage-Current Detection and Interruption (LCDI) Plug: The power cord is equipped with an LCDI plug to reduce fire risk from arcing faults. Users should plug the cord into a grounded wall outlet, press the TEST button to ensure it trips, and then press RESET to start the unit. The TEST and RESET buttons should not be used for daily ON/OFF operation.
Air Filters: The unit includes three air filters: a Silvershield pre-filter, a 3M™ Antimicrobial High Air Flow Filter, and an intake hose pre-filter. The Silvershield pre-filter and intake hose pre-filter are washable and reusable, designed to remove large particles like dust, pet hair, and dander. They can be removed by pulling the filter frame back and out. The 3M™ Antimicrobial High Air Flow Filter is pre-installed and designed to remove dust, pet hair, and dander, inhibit mold and mildew growth, and trap particles using electrostatically charged media. This filter should be replaced every 2-3 months, depending on usage. Filters should be cleaned at least once every two weeks. To clean, switch off the unit, disconnect the plug, remove the filters, vacuum or tap them to remove loose dust, rinse under warm or cold water (not hotter than 100°F), and dry thoroughly before re-inserting. The unit should never be operated without the filters in place.
Cleaning the Air Conditioner: Always switch off and unplug the unit before cleaning. Use a soft, damp cloth to wipe the body. Avoid harsh chemicals, oil-based products, detergents, or chemically treated cloths, as these can damage the unit's body.
End of Season Storage: For storage, switch off and unplug the unit. Remove the hoses from the unit, leaving the connectors in place. Clean all air filters and completely drain any condensed water. Run the unit in Fan-only mode for half a day on a warm day to ensure the inside dries out completely. Remove batteries from the remote control. Wrap the power cord using the Power Cord Buckle and insert the plug into the Power Plug Socket. It is recommended to store the unit in a Whynter storage bag (sold separately).
