Why Whynter ARC-142BX turns on but is not cooling?
- RRoy RuizAug 3, 2025
If your Whynter Air Conditioner turns on, but the compressor doesn't, here's what to check: First, ensure the room temperature is within the unit's operational range of 63°F to 90°F. Second, verify that the Cooling mode is activated by pressing the MODE button until the COOL light appears. Third, allow the compressor 3 minutes to turn on after selecting Cooling mode, as there is a time delay. Fourth, lower the set temperature; it's best to set it at least 5°F below the ambient temperature. Fifth, if ‘P1’ is displayed, either manually drain the water by removing the drain plug or run the unit in fan-only mode to exhaust the water. After that, cooling should resume. Lastly, a loose internal connection could be the issue, so contact Whynter for service.
