Overview

The Wilo Isar BOOST5 is a compact, quiet, and high-performance automatic pressure-boosting system with variable speed functionality, designed for increasing the pressure of clean water in residential buildings and for irrigation and sprinkling in agriculture. It is suitable for water supply from wells, springs, tanks, or the municipal water supply network.

Function Description

The Isar BOOST5 integrates a highly efficient self-priming electric pump, a diaphragm expansion tank, pressure and volume flow sensors, and a non-return valve in the suction port. The system intelligently controls hydraulic and electrical operating parameters and protects against malfunctions. It maintains a constant system pressure by adjusting the pump speed according to usage. The product is electronically controlled and features an intuitive control panel for operation and monitoring.

  • Diaphragm expansion tank prefill pressure: 1.5 bar (maximum filling pressure 4 bar)

Usage Features

The Isar BOOST5 offers several user-friendly features:

  • Control Panel: The control panel includes LEDs for "Operating status" (pressure setting display, operation, fault or alarm), operating buttons ("+" and "-") for adjustments, an "On/Off" button, and an LED for "System status" (green for ready/operation, red for fault/alarm).
  • Operating Modes:
    • System ready for operation: System is on but not operating. "Operating status" LEDs are off, "System status" LED is solid green.
    • System in operation: System is on and operating. "Operating status" LEDs cycle, "System status" LED is solid green.
    • System switches itself off: System shuts down. "Operating status" LEDs cycle, "System status" LED flashes green.
    • System fault/alarm: Unit is on but not ready for operation. "Operating status" LEDs are off, "System status" LED is solid red.
  • Suction Mode: The product is factory-set to suction mode. For initial commissioning, the pump needs to be filled with water (approx. 1.5 L) through the refill opening until water comes out of the aeration opening. Suction mode is activated by simultaneously pressing the "+" and "-" buttons for 5 seconds. The pump automatically attempts to self-prime for a maximum of 5 minutes, stopping for 5 seconds at the end of each minute before restarting. LEDs flash during this process.
  • Deactivating Suction Mode: If proper load operation is ensured or the inlet is already pressurized, automatic suction mode can be switched off by removing the drainage screw plug, turning the change-over switch to the vertical position, and replacing the plug.
  • Setting Operating Pressure: The desired operating pressure can be set between 1 bar and 5.5 bar using the "+" and "-" buttons, with adjustments in 0.5 bar increments. The "operating status" LEDs indicate the current pressure.
  • Alarm Codes: The system provides visual alarm codes via flashing or solid green/red LEDs to indicate various issues such as low water, failure to reach set pressure, outlet pressure below 0.2 bar, low supply voltage, short-circuit, overcurrent, high module/motor temperature, and sensor signal faults.

Maintenance Features

Regular maintenance is crucial for the longevity and optimal performance of the Isar BOOST5:

  • Flow Sensor Maintenance: This involves depressurizing the system, emptying the product via the drainage screw, removing the refill opening cap, loosening the fastening screw to remove the flow sensor, cleaning it if necessary, and then reinserting it properly.
  • Non-return Valve Suction Connection Maintenance: Similar to flow sensor maintenance, this requires depressurizing the system and draining it. Then, the cover and handle grip are removed, followed by the suction port and non-return valve. The non-return valve is checked, cleaned, and reinstalled correctly.
  • Diaphragm Expansion Tank Maintenance: The diaphragm expansion tank's filling pressure should be checked at least once a year (Wilo recommends every 6 months) and refilled if necessary. The filling pressure must be adjusted every time the operating pressure changes. This is done by closing the gate valves, removing the screw at the tank closure, connecting a compressor or air pump, and filling the tank to the desired pressure. An additional diaphragm expansion tank can be installed on the discharge side to prevent pressure peaks.
  • General Maintenance: The manual emphasizes using only original manufacturer parts for maintenance and repairs. Before any work, the device must be disconnected from the mains and secured against accidental switching on. All rotating parts must be at a standstill, and gate valves in the inlet and pressure pipe should be closed. Adequate aeration in enclosed spaces is also important.

The Isar BOOST5 is designed for ease of installation and operation, with clear instructions for commissioning and troubleshooting. It is important to adhere to all safety guidelines and local regulations, especially concerning electrical work and drinking water applications.
