What to do if my Yamaha RX-V661 has no sound?
    • T
      Tanya WoodAug 18, 2025
If your Yamaha Receiver isn't producing sound, there could be several reasons. Ensure the cables are properly connected, and if the issue continues, the cables may be defective. Disconnect the optimizer microphone. Check that the Audio input jack select is set to “AUTO”. If you are playing a source encoded in Dolby Digital or DTS, set Audio input jack select to “COAX/OPT”. Select an appropriate input source using the INPUT selector. Make sure the correct front speakers are selected by pressing [1]SPEAKERS on the front panel. Also, verify that the volume isn't turned down or muted. Finally, ensure that the signals from the source component can be reproduced by the unit and that the HDMI components support HDCP copy protection standards.

If your Yamaha Receiver isn't turning on, ensure the power cable is firmly connected. Check that the speaker impedance setting matches your speakers. Also, verify that the protection circuitry hasn't been activated by ensuring all speaker wire connections are secure and not touching anything other than their respective connections. If the unit was exposed to a strong electric shock, set it to standby, disconnect the power cable, plug it back in after 30 seconds, and try again.
