Overview

This document is the operator's manual for the YARD FORCE Model: GT A42 Petrol Brush Cutter. It provides comprehensive information on the device's intended use, technical specifications, assembly, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.

The YARD FORCE GT A42 is a versatile outdoor power tool designed for domestic use, functioning as both a brush cutter and a grass trimmer. When fitted with a metal circular blade, it acts as a brush cutter, intended for cutting weeds and climbing plants. It is important to note that it should not be used for cutting wood or objects exceeding 13mm in diameter. When equipped with a nylon line cutting head, it functions as a grass trimmer, specifically for trimming grass. The manual explicitly states that this tool is not designed or warranted for commercial, trade, or industrial applications.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Model: GT A42
  • Engine Type: 2-Stroke Euro V
  • Displacement: 33 cc
  • Max. Cutting Speed: 7000 rpm
  • Rated Power: 0.9 kW
  • Metal Blade Size: 1.4 x 255 x 25.4 mm
  • Max. Cutting Capacity (Metal Blade): Ø 13 mm
  • Nylon Line Cutting Head (Max. Cut): 420 mm
  • Nylon Line Size: 2 mm
  • Fuel Capacity: 0.7 L
  • Fuel/Oil Ratio: 40:1 (USE FRESH UNLEADED FUEL (PETROL), 90 OCTANE OR BETTER – Do NOT use E10 or Ethanol blends. Mix with a premium grade air cooled 2 stroke oil at a ratio of 40:1)
  • Easy Start: Yes
  • Net Weight: 8 kg

Usage Features:

The manual details the assembly process, including installing the guard, fitting the blade, and attaching the line trimmer head. The flange nut for both the blade and line trimmer head has a left-hand thread. The handles are adjustable for comfortable operation, and the upper and lower shafts join with a button-and-clamp mechanism. A crucial safety feature is the requirement to always use the brush cutter with the shoulder belt, which clips to a strap attachment point on the device.

Fueling instructions emphasize safety: always shut off the engine and allow it to cool before refueling, do not smoke, ensure adequate ventilation, and never refuel indoors. The fuel mixture must be 40 parts unleaded fuel to 1 part premium grade air-cooled 2-stroke oil. Using raw fuel without oil or an incorrect fuel mixture will cause permanent engine damage and void the warranty.

Starting the brush cutter involves pressing the primer bulb until it fills with fuel mixture, moving the choke lever to the start position, setting the ON/OFF switch to ON, briskly pulling the starter (up to 10 pulls), immediately moving the choke lever to the run position, and then pulling the starter again until the engine starts. To increase engine speed, the throttle interlock is depressed, and the throttle lever is squeezed. The throttle lock button can be pressed to hold the throttle at approximately 50% speed. To stop the engine, the ON/OFF switch is moved to the OFF position.

When using the brush cutter with the blade, the operator should hold it with both hands, the right hand on the throttle lever and the left hand on the left handle, at about hip height. The shoulder strap should be adjusted for a comfortable operating position and to reduce the risk of contact with the blade. The brush cutter should be used like a scythe, cutting from right to left in a broad sweeping action. It is designed for weeds and vines, and the blade can be turned over when dull but not sharpened. Safety warnings include being aware of kickback when using the metal blade and keeping bystanders at least 15 meters away.

When using the tool as a line trimmer, it should be tilted toward the area being cut, and cutting should be done from right to left and from top down to reduce debris thrown at the operator. The line trimmer features a bump feed mechanism, allowing additional line to be released by lightly tapping the spool on the ground while operating at high speed. The manual advises against bumping the spool head on concrete to prevent cracking the housing.

Maintenance Features:

The manual outlines a clear maintenance schedule to ensure the longevity and safe operation of the brush cutter.

Before Each Use:

  • Remove dirt and debris from the tool exterior.
  • Check all screws for tightness and tighten if necessary.
  • Check the blade flange nut for tightness.
  • Inspect the blade for damage (replace if damaged or cracked).
  • Inspect the engine, tank, and hoses for possible fuel leaks.
  • Inspect and clean the engine cooling fins for dirt and debris.

Every 10-15 Hours of Use:

  • Loosen and remove the air filter cover and filter element.
  • Inspect the filter element for distortion or damage (replace if necessary).
  • Wash the filter element in clean fuel, squeeze or blow dry, and reinstall.
  • Remove the spark plug using the spark plug wrench.
  • Clean and adjust the spark plug gap to 0.6-0.7 mm. Replace damaged or worn plugs with an RCJ6Y spark plug or equivalent.
  • Reinstall the spark plug, tightening firmly by hand and then with the wrench.

Every 50 Hours of Use:

  • INSPECTION: Inspect the entire tool and tubes for damage, including loose or missing components, and repair as necessary.
  • SPARK PLUG: Replace the spark plug with an RCJ6Y spark plug or equivalent, gapped to 0.6-0.7 mm.
  • FUEL FILTER: Use a wire hook to extract the fuel filter from inside the fuel tank. Remove and wash the filter element in clean fuel. Inspect the fuel line for damage or deterioration before reinstalling the filter; if noted, the tool should be serviced by a trained technician.

Storage (30 Days or Longer):

  • CLEANING: Thoroughly clean the tool exterior.
  • INSPECTION: Inspect the entire tool for damage, including loose or missing components, and repair as necessary.
  • FUEL: Drain the fuel tank, then clear the carburetor and lines by running the tool until it stops from lack of fuel.
  • LUBRICATION: Remove the spark plug and pour approximately a teaspoon of 2-stroke oil into the cylinder through the spark plug hole. Pull the starter 2 or 3 times before reinstalling the spark plug to distribute the oil over the cylinder walls.
  • AIR FILTER: Remove, clean, and reinstall the filter element.
  • STORAGE: Store the tool in a clean, dry, dust-free environment.

The manual also includes a troubleshooting guide for common issues such as the engine failing to start, being hard to start, lacking power, or running hot, providing possible causes and remedies. It also covers warranty information, stating a 1-year parts and labor warranty against manufacturing defects for domestic use, with exclusions for misuse, unauthorized service, commercial use, and wear parts.
