Resurfacing Procedures
The Zamboni ice resurfacing machine produces the nest quality ice surface known. It
eliminates the labor-intensive and time consuming methods of the past which were required
to maintain an ice surface. You will produce higher quality ice if you read, understand and
practice the following information.
Historically, the best sheet of ice produced prior to the development of the Zamboni ice
resurfacer was usually produced by the following procedures:
• A tractor-pulled planer shaved the ice to remove as many skate grooves as
possible.
• The accumulated shavings were plowed or scraped to a snow pit located
next to the ice surface.
• Dirt and contaminants were ushed out of the remaining skate grooves by
washing the entire ice surface using a heavy hose and nozzle.
• Large hand squeegees were used to push the dirty water to the snow pits.
• Using a hose, the nal coat of water was sprayed or ooded onto the ice
surface to complete the resurfacing operation.
The Zamboni ice resurfacer performs all of these tasks easier and more efciently. The ice
is shaved, shavings collected into the snow tank and the nal coat of water is applied to the
ice surface.
