Overview

This document is a user manual for a Zanussi cooker, models ZCE560, ZCV561, and ZCV563. It provides comprehensive instructions for the cooker's functions, usage, and maintenance.

Function Description

The Zanussi cooker features a hob, a grill, a top oven, and a main oven, designed for domestic cooking of edible foodstuffs.

Hob: The hob is available in two types: ceramic and solid. It is controlled by a knob with seven positions. Position "0" is off, while positions 1-6 indicate different heat settings. Position 1 is for heat maintenance, positions 2-3 are for low-temperature heating, and positions 4-6 are for cooking, frying, and boiling. For ceramic hob models, there is a hot hob indicator to show when a cooking zone is still hot after use.

Grill: The grill function is located in the top oven compartment. For models ZCE560DW, ZCV561DW/DX, the grill control allows for variable heat settings, with lower settings suitable for keeping food warm. For models ZCV563DW/DX/DN, the grill offers three functions: full grill area at 1/4 power, centre grill area at full power, and full grill area at full power. The grill pan and grid are supplied for grilling.

Top Oven: The top oven is the smaller of the two ovens and is designed for cooking smaller quantities of food. It is particularly good for fruitcakes, sweets, savory flans, and quiches. It can also be used as a warming compartment for dishes and to keep food hot. The top oven uses top and bottom heating elements.

Main Oven: The main oven is a fan oven, suitable for cooking larger quantities of food. It offers even cooking results on multiple shelf levels, which is especially useful for batch baking. The main oven also includes a defrost function and a slow cook function. The defrost function thaws foods faster than conventional methods, particularly delicate frozen foods. The slow cook function provides a very low heat, ideal for making cheaper, tougher cuts of meat more tender in soups, stews, and casseroles.

Electronic Timer (ZCV563DW/DN/DX): This model includes an electronic timer with several functions:

  • Setting the Time of Day: Allows the user to set the current time.
  • Setting the Countdown: Functions as a time setup and alarm, allowing for a countdown period of 0-23.59 hours. An alarm sounds and a symbol flashes when the countdown ends.
  • Setting the Desired Cooking Period: Used to set the duration of a cooking period, adjustable between 0-10 hours.
  • Setting the Finish Time: Used to adjust the end time of a cooking period. The oven will turn off automatically when the set finish time is reached.

Usage Features

General Use:

  • Always ensure the appliance is installed according to instructions by a qualified electrician.
  • Use oven gloves when handling hot items.
  • Ensure cooking utensils are large enough to prevent spillage.
  • Keep children away from hot surfaces and the appliance during use.
  • Do not leave the oven door open unattended.
  • Switch off the cooker when not in use.

Hob Usage:

  • Use saucepans with flat bases and close-fitting lids.
  • Saucepan bases should be approximately the same size as the cooking area.
  • Lift, rather than slide, saucepans to prevent scratches.
  • Wipe up sugar solution spillages immediately to prevent damage.
  • For solid hobs, operate hotplates without a pan at level 3 for 5 minutes during first use to harden the protective coating.

Grill Usage:

  • Turn the grill control to the desired setting.
  • Most foods should be placed on the grid in the grill pan for maximum air circulation.
  • Adjust grid and grill pan runner positions for different food thicknesses.
  • Preheat the grill on full setting for a few minutes before sealing steaks or toasting.
  • Turn food over as required during cooking.
  • The top oven door can be kept open or closed during grilling.

Top Oven Usage:

  • Arrange shelves in required positions before switching on.
  • Maintain at least 2.5 cm (1 inch) between the top of the food and the element.
  • Place tins or baking trays centrally on the shelf.
  • Use a suitably sized baking tray on the shelf to prevent spillage onto the oven base.
  • Avoid placing baking trays directly on the oven base to prevent base burning.

Main Oven Usage:

  • Preheating is generally not necessary for fan ovens, but an extra 5-10 minutes may be needed for cooking times. For recipes requiring high temperatures or frozen/chilled ready meals, preheat the oven first.
  • Fan oven cooking typically requires lower temperatures than conventional cooking.
  • When cooking multiple dishes, place them centrally on different shelves for free heat circulation.
  • For batch baking, similar-sized items will cook in the same time.
  • For slow cook, preheat the oven to 180-190°C for 30 minutes before turning down to the slow cook setting. Cover food to prevent drying out.

Maintenance Features

General Cleaning:

  • Allow the appliance to cool before cleaning.
  • Do not use abrasive cleaning materials, wire wool pads, or scourers on painted or printed finishes.
  • Wipe control panel, knobs, handles, doors, and sides with a soft cloth and hot soapy water.
  • Avoid cleaners containing bleach.
  • Do not attempt to remove control knobs.

Hob Cleaning:

  • Solid Hob: Clean after each use with lukewarm soapy water and a mild detergent. Periodically, a mild scouring agent may be used. Avoid scouring pads and sharp objects.
  • Ceramic Hob: Ensure the ceramic glass is cool before cleaning. Use a hob-cleaning product specifically designed for ceramic hobs daily. For stubborn marks, cream cleaner or a paste of cream of tartar and water can be used. Use a ceramic hob scraper with care at a 30° angle to remove burnt-on foodstuff, especially sugar solutions.

Grill and Oven Furniture Cleaning:

  • Removable parts (except the grill pan handle) can be washed in a dishwasher.
  • Grill pan, grill pan grid, and oven shelves can be cleaned with a soap-impregnated steel wool pad after soaking in hot soapy water.

Inside Grill and Oven Compartments Cleaning:

  • Vitreous enamel surfaces can be cleaned with normal oven cleaners, following manufacturer's instructions.
  • Avoid aerosol cleaners coming into contact with elements, door seals, or painted finishes.

Door Cleaning:

  • Clean glass door panels with hot soapy water or hob cleaner. Do not use hob cleaner on stainless steel or painted surfaces.
  • To clean between the outer and inner door glass, follow the instructions for removing the inner glass panels.
  • Do not use household detergents, bleaches, abrasive pads, steel wool pads, chemical oven pads, aerosols, rust removers, or bath/sink stain removers on door glass.
  • If door glass is chipped or scratched, it must be replaced by a service force centre. Do not use the oven without the glass in place.

Replacing the Light Bulb:

  • Disconnect the appliance from the electricity supply and ensure it is cool.
  • Open the door, remove shelves, turn the glass cover to the left, unscrew the old bulb, fit a new 25 watt, 230 V, 300°C heat-resistant oven light bulb, replace the glass cover and shelves, then reset the electricity supply and time of day.
