TheVirtualLocalAreaNetwork(VLAN)protocolisabasicprotocoloflayer-2switching
equipment,whichenablestheadministratortodivideaphysicalLANintomultipleVLANs.
EachVLANhasaVLANIDtoidentifyituniquelyintheentireLAN.MultipleVLANsshare
theswitchingequipmentandlinksofthephysicalLAN.
Logically,aVLANislikeanindependentLAN.AllframeowsinthesameVALNare
restrictedinthisVLAN.Cross-VLANvisitcanonlybeimplementedthroughforwarding
onlayer-3.Inthisway,thenetworkperformanceisimproved,andtheoverallowinthe
physicalLANiseffectivelylowered.
TheVLANhasthefollowingfunctions:
1.Reducethebroadcaststormsofnetwork.
2.Enhancethenetworksecurity.
