7.8 DOLBY VOLUME AND DYNAMIC RANGE CONTROL
Refer to the Input Setup section for a description of Dolby Volume. The output is forced to a maximum of 7.1 channels
when the MRX/AVM is congured to use height channels. To change on/o status, press DYN on the remote control and
then the up/down buttons. To change the Leveler amount, press DYN a second time when Dolby Volume is on and then
adjust using the up/down buttons.
When Dolby Volume is o, and you press the DYN button a second time, alternate dynamic range settings become
available. This setting allows you to control the dierence between the softest and loudest passages on multichannel
Dolby Digital soundtracks that contain dynamic scaling cues. Press up/down to select:
Normal provides no dynamic range modication.
Reduced allows the quieter parts to be heard more easily by raising the level of quiet sounds and reducing the level of
loud ones according to cues in the soundtrack.
Late Night further reduces the softest-to-loudest dierence.
Many sources also have dynamic range controls. Be sure to disable them to get the most from the MRX/AVM’s controls
and to prevent the dynamic range from being reduced twice. In some cases, the names of settings in sources are
confusing because “Extended” can mean dynamics are left alone while “Normal” can indicate a reduction. Check the
operating manuals of your sources to nd what their settings mean and when they apply because sometimes default
settings reduce dynamics. If all else fails, trust your ears.
