Overview

The ABB Electronic Liquid Level Indicator eOLI/eOLI22 and Comem eViewer are components designed for use with oil-insulated transformers to monitor and indicate the conservator tank oil level. This quick start guide provides essential safety information, technical specifications, and installation instructions for these devices.

Function Description

The primary function of the liquid level indicator (eOLI/eOLI22) is to provide an accurate reading of the oil level within a transformer's conservator tank. These devices typically incorporate up to four micro-switches internally, which can be configured to signal critical oil levels. These signals can trigger alarms or initiate transformer power-off sequences, enhancing operational safety and preventing potential damage. The Comem eViewer acts as a remote display unit, allowing for the visualization of the oil level indicated by the eOLI/eOLI22 from a separate location.

Safety Instructions

Safety is paramount during the installation and operation of these devices. Only technically qualified and competent personnel, who fully comply with the provided assembling instructions, should perform installation. Improper operations or misuse can lead to serious or fatal injury, damage to equipment, or compromise the proper function of the equipment.

Three types of safety messages are used in the manual:

  • WARNING: Indicates particular danger to life and health. Disregarding such a warning can lead to serious or fatal injury.
  • CAUTION: Indicates particular danger to equipment and/or other property of the user. Serious or fatal injury cannot be excluded.
  • NOTE: Provides important and specific information concerning the equipment.

Electrical installation must adhere to relevant national safety rules. It is mandatory to connect the grounding cable. All relevant fire regulations must be strictly observed. Installation, electrical connection, and fitting of the device should only be performed by qualified personnel and in accordance with the instruction manual. Users are responsible for ensuring the device is used only for its specified application. Unauthorized and improper usage should be avoided for safety reasons.

Usage Features

Installation:

  • Comem eOLI/eOLI22: The arm with the float is inserted through a machined hole on the conservator. An O-ring is placed in the slot behind the gauge. The flange is aligned with threaded pins or holes (depending on the conservator flange type) and secured using four M4x12 screws. The oil level indicator flange is assembled using specific washers and nuts/screws as detailed in the tables.
  • Comem eViewer: The transformer must have a dedicated place for the eViewer. Connection can be made via threaded pin and nut M6 or screws M6.

Modbus Communication Parameters (for eOLI/eOLI22):

  • Speed of data transmission (baud rate): 9600 bits/s.
  • Data bits (number of bits): 8.
  • Parity bit: None.
  • Stop bit: 1.

Electrical Connection:

  • Micro Switch Wiring: Electrical cables are wired according to the ordered model and the provided electrical scheme (Diagram K, Y, X, W).
  • Analog Output and Modbus Communication Wiring (eOLI/eOLI22):
    • Power Voltage: Connect 24 Vdc ±10% polarized power to terminals 1-2.
    • Analog Output: Terminals 6-7 provide 4-20 mA output. 4 mA corresponds to the minimum arrow position (0%), and 20 mA to the maximum arrow position (100%).
    • Modbus Communication: Digital output RS485 uses terminals 3-4. Refer to the complete manual for Modbus register and address information.
  • Comem eViewer Wiring:
    • Power Voltage: Connect 24 Vdc ±10% polarized power to terminals 1-2.
    • Analog Input: Connect the analog signal (4-20 mA) from the eOLI/eOLI22 to terminals 6-7 of the eViewer. Negative eViewer (3) connects to negative eOLI (7), and positive eViewer (4) connects to positive eOLI (6).

Micro-switches Operation:

The electrical micro-switches operate at an advance angle ≤5° with respect to the min or max indications of the oil level in the conservator. If there is a double contact (e.g., double MIN and/or double MAX), the second contact operates approximately 5° after the first contact.

Maintenance Features

Troubleshooting:

The manual provides a troubleshooting guide for common issues:

  • eOLI/eOLI22 not providing 4-20mA/Modbus output: Check if the eDevice is properly fed with 24 VDC between terminals 1 (-) and 2 (-). Blue LEDs (one fixed and one blinking) should be powered on.
  • Not possible to read Modbus output on eOLI/eOLI22: If the eDevice is properly powered on, check the Modbus ID and register number.
  • Pointer on the dial is always at the lowest position: Check that the floating element is not damaged.
  • eViewer does not indicate any value even if connected to the eOLI/eOLI22: Check the polarity connection of the 4-20mA terminals.
