Introduction to the manual
What this chapter contains
This chapter describes the manual.
Target audience
This manual is intended for people who wish to connect the MotiFlex e180 to an
EtherCAT network. Basic information about EtherCAT connection can be found in the
MotiFlex e180 User’s manual. Read the manual before working on the drive. You are
expected to know the fundamentals of electricity, wiring, electrical components and
electrical schematic symbols.
The manual is written for readers worldwide. Both SI and imperial units are shown.
Contents of this manual
The manual consists of the following chapters:
• Safety (page 7) gives safety instructions you must follow when installing,
commissioning, operating and servicing the drive.
• Introduction to the manual (this chapter, page 15) describes applicability, target
audience, purpose and contents of this manual. It also contains a quick
installation and commissioning flowchart.
• Physical connection (page 17) describes the operation principle, connector
layout, type designation label and type designation information in short.
• Start-up (page 21) describes the steps for applying power to the drive, installing
the Mint Machine Center software, and tuning and optimizing the motor/drive
combination.
