Questions and Answers

Overview

The ADJ Flat Par QA12XS is an intelligent, high-powered LED par fixture designed for professional lighting applications. It offers a versatile range of operating modes and technical specifications, making it suitable for various event settings.

Function Description:

The Flat Par QA12XS is primarily a DMX intelligent wash fixture capable of producing multi-color lighting. It can operate in five distinct modes:

  • Sound Active Mode: The unit reacts to sound, offering 16 sound-active programs and adjustable sound sensitivity (SJ-1 to SJ-8, with SJ-8 being the most sensitive).
  • Static Color Mode: Users can choose from 15 static colors. Strobing can be activated in this mode, with flash rates adjustable from FS.00 (off) to FS.15 (fastest).
  • Auto Mode: This mode includes three different automatic programs: Color Fade, Color Change, and a combination of both. Each program has an adjustable running speed from SP.01 (slowest) to SP.16 (fastest).
    • AFXX: Color Fade mode with 16 different fade programs.
    • AJXX: Color Change mode with 16 different change programs.
    • A-JF: Both Color Fade and Color Change modes running simultaneously.
  • RGBA Dimmer Mode: This allows users to select and adjust the intensity of individual Red, Green, Blue, and Amber colors to create custom hues. Strobing (FS.00 to FS.15) can also be activated in this mode.
  • DMX Control Mode: This is the most advanced mode, allowing comprehensive control over the fixture's traits using a standard DMX 512 controller. The fixture supports 8 DMX channel modes (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8 channels), providing flexibility for different control setups.

The unit also features an LED display that can be set to turn off after 10 seconds ("doFF") or remain on at all times ("don"). The display can also be inverted 180° for convenience. An infrared receiver is built-in for control via the ADJ LED RC 2 remote control (sold separately), offering functions like blackout, program selection, flash, speed adjustment, DMX mode selection, and RGBA intensity control.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Model: Flat Par QA12XS
  • Voltage: 100V ~ 240V / 50~60Hz (Auto Sensing Voltage)
  • LEDs: 12 x 5 Watt 4-in-1 LED's (RGBA Color Mixing)
  • Beam Angle: 25 Degrees
  • Working Position: Any safe working position
  • Power Consumption: 80W
  • Fuse: 1 Amp
  • Weight: 7 lbs. / 3.2 Kgs.

  • DMX Channels: 8 DMX Modes (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8 Channel Modes)
  • DMX Connection: 3-pin XLR for data input and output.
  • Power Cord Daisy Chain: Up to 7 fixtures maximum of the same type can be daisy-chained.
  • Included Accessories: Snoot Frame (to limit unwanted light exposure).
  • Warranty: 2 Year (730 days) Limited Warranty.

Usage Features:

  • Automatic Voltage Switching: The fixture automatically senses the voltage when plugged in, eliminating concerns about correct power voltage.
  • DMX-512 Protocol: Compatible with DMX-512 for advanced control, allowing integration with other DMX-compliant fixtures and controllers. DMX cables should be standard 3-pin XLR, 110-120 Ohm shielded, and daisy-chained.
  • Line Termination: For longer DMX cable runs, a 110-120 ohm 1/4 watt resistor (terminator) connected between pins 2 and 3 of the last unit's male XLR connector is recommended to prevent erratic behavior.
  • Master-Slave Operation: Multiple units can be linked together, with one unit acting as the master controller and others as slaves, copying the master's operation.
  • Default Running Mode: A function to reset all operating modes to their default settings.
  • Mounting Positions: Fully operational in three mounting positions: hanging upside-down from a ceiling, hanging sideways on trussing, or set on a flat level surface. It should be mounted using a mounting clamp (not provided) and the provided mounting bracket. A safety cable is required for installation.
  • ADJ LED RC 2 Compatibility: The fixture can be controlled wirelessly using the ADJ LED RC 2 infrared remote control (sold separately) after activating the infrared receiver.

Maintenance Features:

  • Cleaning: Periodic cleaning of internal and external optical lenses is necessary to optimize light output. The external casing should be wiped with a soft cloth and normal glass cleaner. External optics should be cleaned every 20 days. All parts must be completely dry before plugging the unit back in. Cleaning frequency depends on the operating environment (e.g., presence of smoke, fog residue, dust, dew).
  • Fuse Replacement: The fuse holder is located inside the power socket. To replace a fuse, disconnect power, remove the power cord, gently pry out the fuse holder with a flat-head screwdriver, remove the old fuse, and replace it with a new one. A spare fuse holder is also available.
  • Troubleshooting: The manual provides solutions for common issues such as the unit not responding to DMX (checking cable connections and wiring) and the unit not responding to sound (ensuring Sound Active mode is activated and considering sound pitch/volume).
  • User Serviceable Parts: There are no user-serviceable parts inside the unit. Attempting repairs will void the manufacturer's warranty. For service, contact ADJ Products, LLC.
