6.8 Changing Out Filters
WARNING! Ensure persons removing lters are made aware of any potential hazards and that they are
provided with any necessary protective clothing and equipment.
Hazardsassociatedwiththeremovalanddisposalofusedlterswilldependontheapplicationofthehood.
Ifanactivatedcarbonlterisusedwithhydrocarbonsolvents,thelterwillretainthesolventswithoutloss,
andcanberemovedinthelaboratory.Theusedltershouldbesealedintoaplasticbagpriortodisposal,
preferably by incineration.
Ifthelterhascontainedanydangerousmaterialssuchasasbestosdustorradioactivechemicals,
operatorprotectionisadvised,includingtheuseofarespirator.Theusedltersmayrequiredisposal
by a specialist company.
NOTE: CONSULT YOUR SAFETY OFFICER OR INDUSTRIAL HYGIENIST BEFORE REMOVING OR
DISPOSING ANY FILTERS.
Pre-Filters
Thepre-lterislocatedbelowthemainlter.Removetheperforatedpre-ltertray.Removetheoldpre-lter
andplaceitintoabag.Sealfordisposal.Retthenewlterandretthepre-ltertray.
Main Carbon / HEPA Filter
WARNING! Disconnect the power supply before removing lter access cover.
• Removethefrontcovertogainaccesstothelter.Loosenthelterclamps.Liftthelterslightlytobreak
thesealandthenwithdrawthelter.Placethelterinaplasticbag.Sealthebagfordisposal.
• Slidethenewlterintopositionbypushingthelterfullyintothemodule.Retthefrontcoverandlockit
in position.
• Pleasenote,sometimesafternewltersaretted,itmaybenecessarytorecalibratetheairowsystem.
