two supports holding it o the ground, rst saw down from the top one-third
through the log then nish by sawing up from the bottom.
CAUTION: Avoid cutting into the ground as this will very quickly dull the saw
chain.
Pruning (Fig N)
Pruning is the removal of a limb or branch from a
standing tree.
WARNING: Do not use an unstable foothold
or ladder. Do not overreach.
WARNING: Do not saw above shoulder
height. Always use both hands to hold the
chainsaw. First cut up from the bottom and nish
down from the top.
Kickback safety devices on this chainsaw
This chainsaw has a low-kickback chain and reduced kickback guide bar (7). Both
items reduce the chance of kickback. However, kickback can still occur with this
chainsaw.
The following steps will reduce the risk of kickback.
• Use both hands to grip chainsaw while saw is running. Use rm grip. Thumbs
and ngers must wrap around chainsaw handles.
• Keep all safety items in place on chainsaw. Make sure they work properly.
• Do not overreach or cut above shoulder height.
• Keep solid footing and balance at all times.
• Stand slightly to left side of chainsaw. This keeps your body from being in
direct line with chain.
• Do not let guide bar nose touch anything when chain is moving.
• Never try cutting through two logs at same time. Only cut one log at a time.
• Do not bury the guide bar nose or try plunge cut (boring into wood using
guide bar nose).
• Watch for shifting of wood or other forces that may pinch chain.
• Use extreme caution when reentering a previous cut.
