Installing the AR725 and AR745
Selecting a Site
You can install the router on a level surface such as a desktop or bench, or in a
standard 19-inch rack, using the rack-mount kit supplied with the router.
When you install the router, choose a site that:
■ allows adequate airflow around the router and its vents.
■ is free of dust and moisture.
■ will maintain an ambient temperature range of 0 ºC to 40 ºC
(32 ºF to 104 ºF) and a humidity range of 5% to 80% non-condensing.
■ has a reliable and earthed (grounded) power supply, preferably dedicated and
filtered.
■ does not expose cabling to sources of electrical noise such as radio
transmitters, broadband amplifiers, power lines, electric motors, and
fluorescent fixtures.
■ allows easy access to the router’s power and cable connections.
Before Installing
■ Read the safety information “Safety” on page 30.
■ Gather the tools and equipment you will need.
If you are also installing an optional Port Interface Card (PIC), you will need
the PIC and the PIC Quick Install Guide. (“Installing expansion options” on
page 7)
If the router is to be connected to a redundant power supply, you will need
the redundant power supply unit and cable.(“Applying power to AC models
of AR725 and AR745” on page 7)
If installing a DC version of the router, you will need a DC power source,
DC supply cable, and wire strippers.(“Applying power to DC models of
AR725 and AR745” on page 7)
■ Unpack the router. Verify the package contents. If any items are damaged or
missing, contact your sales representative.
■ Place the router in its operating location. See the previous section “Selecting
a Site” on page 6 for guidelines on choosing a suitable location.
