TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE
If symptoms of poor performance develop, the following chart can be used as a guide to
investigate and correct the problem.
Problem Possible Cause Solution
Compressor runs hot Compressor reed valves Inspect, clean or replace valves
Dirty intake filter Clean filter assembly
Low oil Level Add oil if needed
Check valve leaking Disassemble, clean, and re-install
Compressor does not run Air reservoir full Drain and activate pressure switch
Belt not connected to clutch Connect belt
Couplers or hoses blocked Locate and remove restriction
Air load against compressor Relieve air pressure
Clutch not working Inspect and repair
Check valve leaking Disassemble, clean, and reinstall
Compressor runs too slow Compressor reed valves Inspect, clean or replace valves
Check for hose leaks Tighten any hose fitting leaking
Clutch worn Replace with new clutch
Speed control not working Inspect and repair
Compressor will not stop Air pressure switch set wrong Check points and setting on switch
Leaking hoses or fittings Tighten all fittings and hoses
Air output too low Low compressor speed Refer to compressor too slow
(air pressure okay) Air filter dirty Inspect and clean
Airlines leaking Retighten hoses
Check valve plugged Remove and clean check valve
Compressor cycles, Leaks in air line Tighten hoses and fittings
air not being used Air pressure switch set wrong Check cut-in and cutout settings
Air output low, Dirty air filter Inspect and clean filter
air pressure low Intake reed valves malfunction If air back-flows from air filter,
reed valve is faulty, replace.
Insufficient torque on head bolts Tighten bolts to required torque
